The village of berries

In Avasinis, a hamlet of Trasaghis in the province of Udine, at the foot of the Julian Prealps, one of the most beloved festivals in the hilly Friuli region is renewed every Ferragosto: the Festa del Lampone e del Mirtillo (Raspberry and Blueberry Festival). Organized by the Pro Loco Avasinis, the event celebrates the berries that have always characterized this mountain corner, attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year from all over Friuli and even from abroad. For the occasion, the village is closed to traffic and transforms into a path of stalls, scents, and music.

Raspberries and blueberries in every form

Along the village streets, you can buy fresh raspberries and blueberries and their processed products, but above all, you can taste the many preparations that feature them. Among sweets of all kinds — berry biscuits, bread, fritters, crêpes, tarts, and doughnuts — and savoury dishes such as the famous blueberry risotto and gnocchi and cjarsons with blueberries, the festival also offers Avasinis specialties prepared according to ancient recipes: omelette with cheese, polenta, and frico. A gastronomic experience that combines sweet and savoury in the name of berries.

Music, workshops, and festive atmosphere

Every day the village comes alive with numerous concerts and workshops for children and teenagers, in an atmosphere made even more lively by travelling musicians who roam the streets. The festival is designed for all ages and manages to combine the quality of the gastronomic offerings with a rich and popular entertainment schedule, which has made it a supra-regional event.

Where and when

The festival takes place in the hamlet of Avasinis, in the Municipality of Trasaghis, reachable from the Gemona del Friuli and Cavazzo Lake area. The event is traditionally scheduled for the Ferragosto days, from August 15th to 17th.
