About Fermento Emilia

Fermento Emilia is the fair entirely dedicated to the artisanal, natural, organic, and biodynamic wines of Emilia. Every year, in the evocative setting of the Castle of Montecchio Emilia, in the province of Reggio Emilia, winemakers from all over the Emilia region gather for two days of tasting stands, masterclasses, and guided tastings. A journey into wine as an expression of work, tradition, and territory, where historic wineries and young micro-producers coexist.

A fair dedicated to artisanal Emilian wine

Fermento Emilia is the exhibition entirely dedicated to the artisanal, natural, organic, and biodynamic wines of Emilia. The event is held in Montecchio Emilia, in the province of Reggio Emilia, within the walls of its medieval Castle on Via Alfonso d'Este, one of the most fascinating Matildic fortified buildings in Emilia-Romagna. For two days, the manor is transformed into a large tasting area, while the adjacent courtyard hosts the food area.

Winemakers from all over Emilia

The heart of the event is the tasting stands: about forty wineries from the provinces of Ferrara, Bologna, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma, and Piacenza come to present and pour their labels directly. Here, winemakers who have made the history of artisanal Emilian wine coexist with new generations producing micro-quantities of just 1500-2000 bottles. It is a rare opportunity to meet the winemakers in person and to discover native grape varieties such as Malbo gentile, Malvasia di Candia aromatica, and interpretations of Lambrusco far from mass distribution.

Masterclasses and guided tastings

Alongside the tasting stands, Fermento Emilia offers a calendar of masterclasses and thematic tastings led by producers and speakers, featuring historical verticals and in-depth sessions dedicated to sweet wines (passiti), the Emilian classic method, and rosรฉ wines from the region. There are also debates and round tables on the cultural and social value of artisanal agriculture.

A project to enhance the territory

The event is organized by Naturalmente Emilia, a project created to showcase and promote the food and wine heritage of Emilia, with the patronage of the Municipality of Montecchio Emilia. The event is designed for both enthusiasts and industry professionals, as well as for those new to the world of natural wine, in a convivial setting with a strong regional identity.

Between the hills and the plains of Reggio Emilia

Montecchio Emilia is located in the middle Val d'Enza, a few kilometers from Reggio Emilia and Parma: an ideal position to combine a visit to the fair with a weekend exploring the villages, castles, and flavors of the Province of Reggio Emilia and Emilia-Romagna.
