The craft beer and live music festival in San Giorgio a Liri
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every summer, in mid-July, the Municipality of San Giorgio a Liri — a small town in the Liri Valley, in the province of Frosinone, southern Lazio — hosts four evenings dedicated to quality beer. Fermento is a project designed and created to promote and showcase the world of craft beer, produced by microbreweries and artisan brewers. The stage is set in Piazzale degli Eroi, which for the occasion fills up with taps, long tables, the aromas of local food, and live music.
Fermento was founded in 2022 from an idea by Fabio Moretta and Angelo Conti, owner of the Bar dello Sport – Enoteca Moretta in San Giorgio a Liri. With the third edition in 2024, the project was strengthened by the arrival of Damiano Macera and Roberto Paliotta from the Birreria Malti da Legare. The event is coordinated by the Agorà Association of San Giorgio a Liri, which also manages the festival's kitchen, with the patronage of the Municipality. It is a successful example of an event organized by young people to enhance their local area, which in just a few years has become a staple of the Ciociaria summer.
The heart of the event is the brewing selection: the organizers set up 22 tap systems with around twenty different beers from 9 countries around the world. In past editions, the list included Italian, German, Belgian, American, English, Danish, Czech, Dutch, and Irish beers: a true trip around the world in a glass, with a special focus on quality and the culture of craft beer, far removed from industrial logic.
Every evening at Fermento is accompanied by a free concert in the square. The stage at Piazzale degli Eroi hosts a mix of local bands and popular tribute acts: in 2025, for example, singer-songwriter Franco Tispi, the 338 Tribute Band (dedicated to Max Pezzali and 883), Ligatime with Teorema and 7EAGLE, and Born to Be Wild all performed. The formula is that of a village festival revisited with a craft twist: you drink well, eat, dance, and enjoy the company under the July stars.
Alongside the beers, the food is curated by the Agorà Association with the contribution of local businesses: previous editions featured the focaccia from Bar dello Sport – Enoteca Moretta, which has received international awards for its pan pizza, and sandwiches from Fra e Mangia. A simple and genuine menu, designed to perfectly complement the draft beers.
San Giorgio a Liri is located in southern Lazio, along the road connecting Cassino to the Gulf of Gaeta, in an area rich in history and tradition. Fermento is also an opportunity to discover this authentic corner of the Ciociaria: the Liri Valley, nearby villages like Ausonia and Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano, and, just a few kilometers away, the Abbey of Montecassino. A young festival that perfectly captures the spirit of a community that opens its squares to residents and visitors alike during the summer.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet communicated the dates and program for the 2026 edition of Fermento. Based on previous editions — which always took place in mid-July, from Thursday to Sunday — the appointment with craft beer in Piazzale degli Eroi in San Giorgio a Liri is expected during the same period, with the usual formula: beer taps from different nations, free concerts every night, and food managed by the Agorà Association. We will update this page as soon as official confirmations are available.
Fermento takes place in mid-July in Piazzale degli Eroi, in the center of San Giorgio a Liri (FR). The event lasts for four consecutive evenings, from late afternoon until night, with live concerts starting around 9:00 PM. Admission is free; you only pay for beer and food.
By car: A1 motorway, Cassino exit, then take the SS630 Ausonia towards Formia until you reach San Giorgio a Liri (about 15 minutes). By train: the nearest station is Cassino, on the Rome–Naples line via Cassino, about 13 km away. Parking is available in the town center streets and in the areas adjacent to the square.
Summer evenings in the Liri Valley are warm but pleasant: the event takes place entirely outdoors. For accommodation, there are B&Bs and farmhouses in San Giorgio a Liri and in the surroundings of Cassino and Ausonia.
