An evening of wine and tradition in the heart of Ciociaria

Le Vie del Vino is the food and wine festival that every year, traditionally on the first weekend of October, brings the historic center of San Giovanni Incarico to life. This village in the province of Frosinone overlooks the lake of the same name in southern Lazio. Born as a project to promote local agricultural and culinary heritage, the festival is organized by the Municipality of San Giovanni Incarico and has become one of the most anticipated autumn events in Ciociaria, attracting visitors from across the province and beyond.

The wine squares

The formula is as simple as it is evocative: for one evening, the alleys and small squares of the ancient village turn into a taste itinerary. The main squares are renamed after grape varieties—Piazza Cabernet, Piazza Cesanese, Piazza Tinto de Verano, and Piazza Merlot—and each hosts refreshment and tasting points where you can choose what to eat and drink while strolling through ancient architecture, picturesque corners, and panoramic views of the Liri Valley.

The 'brocchetta': the ritual of the festival

The symbol of the event is the 'brocchetta', the small traditional jug on sale at various points throughout the event: those who purchase it can enjoy free wine tastings along the entire route. A convivial gesture that recalls the harvests of the past and transforms every edition into a great street party, with free admission, where glasses are passed from hand to hand amidst toasts and chatter.

The flavors of Ciociaria tradition

Alongside the wine, the absolute protagonist is the cuisine of Ciociaria: numerous food stands offer typical dishes prepared according to local recipes, from traditional peasant first courses to local products. A sensory journey that highlights the agricultural excellence of the area, in line with the original spirit of the event: to raise awareness of the food and wine heritage of San Giovanni Incarico through tourist routes blending history, flavors, and traditions.

Music and atmosphere in the village

The evening is accompanied by live music, with bands and artists performing in the corners of the historic center. The atmosphere is that of the great village festivals of Lazio: lights among the alleys, the scent of food, and the cheerful bustle of crowded squares. The 13th edition in 2025 confirmed the success of the formula with thousands of attendees in a single evening.

The festival is also an opportunity to discover San Giovanni Incarico, a small town in the province of Frosinone dominated by its medieval village and overlooking the lake formed by the Liri River, now a fascinating natural area. The town is located halfway between Frosinone and Cassino, easily accessible from the Ferentino-Sora highway and the A1 motorway: an ideal destination for an autumn trip among nature, history, and good food in the most authentic part of Lazio.
