Tastings, Christmas markets, and folklore in Piazza Dante, San Giorgio a Liri
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Liri Valley, just a few kilometers from Cassino, the village of San Giorgio a Liri hosts a Christmas event that has quickly become a beloved local tradition: Millesimo. For an entire Sunday in December, from late morning until evening, Piazza Dante comes alive with food and wine tastings, Christmas markets, live music, and entertainment for all ages. The event's name is a tribute to wine: the "millesimo" refers to the vintage year on a label, and the tasting of selected labels has been the beating heart of the festival since its inception.
Millesimo is organized by the Agorà Association of San Giorgio a Liri with the patronage of the Municipality of San Giorgio a Liri, in the province of Frosinone, Southern Lazio. The format is that of a grand town square festival: free admission, a gourmet trail winding around the main square, and a non-stop schedule of performances from morning to night. The event also has a charitable soul, having previously supported causes such as ELA Onlus and the Il Cavallino Felice children's home.
The backbone of Millesimo is the gourmet trail, featuring over 15 stalls offering the best of local traditions and regional products: Ciociarian specialties, festive sweets, and high-quality street food. Accompanying the food is a high-quality wine tasting experience curated by Enoteca Moretta, a historic local establishment that selects labels to pair perfectly with the culinary offerings. There are also educational and delicious moments, such as pastry workshops; in the 2024 edition, the workshop was led by chef Annamaria Ciacciarelli.
Surrounding the stalls is a continuous entertainment program. Past editions have featured live bands, show bands, and DJ sets, while flag-wavers have added color to the square with their choreography. The Christmas atmosphere is brought to life by wandering bagpipers and accordionists, who revive the traditional sounds of Southern Lazio, alongside folk dance performances that engage the crowd until the evening.
Millesimo pays special attention to children: the free play area with mascots and face painting, the Christmas-themed playroom where kids can write and post letters to Santa, and dedicated entertainment activities make the event a true family celebration. The Christmas markets, with their wooden huts and stalls selling handicrafts and gift ideas, complete the picture of a perfect afternoon spent between the square and the town center.
San Giorgio a Liri is one of the municipalities in the so-called "Valley of the Saints," a stretch of the Ciociaria region crossed by the Liri River between Cassino and the border with Campania. Millesimo is the ideal opportunity to discover this authentic corner of Lazio: a land of peasant traditions, great food, and genuine hospitality that shines brightest during the holiday season. Born in 2023 and growing rapidly each year, the event is now one of the most anticipated Christmas gatherings in the Cassino area.
Following the success of the first three editions, Millesimo is expected to return to San Giorgio a Liri in December 2026. The Agorà Association, with municipal support, has not yet confirmed the date; in previous years, the event has always taken place on the Sunday preceding Christmas, from 11:00 AM until evening, in Piazza Dante.
The proven format is expected to be confirmed: high-quality wine tastings, over 15 food stalls with typical Liri Valley products, Christmas markets, flag-wavers, wandering bagpipers, folk dancing, and a free play area for children. We will update this page as soon as the 2026 program is published.
Millesimo takes place in Piazza Dante, in the center of San Giorgio a Liri (FR), on a Sunday in December close to Christmas, from 11:00 AM until late evening. Admission is free; tastings and food purchases are paid directly at the stalls.
By car: Take the Cassino exit on the A1 motorway, then follow the Cassino-Formia highway to the San Giorgio a Liri exit (about 15 minutes from Cassino). By train: Arrive at Cassino station on the Rome-Naples line, then take regional buses to San Giorgio a Liri.
Parking is available in areas adjacent to the center; arriving early is recommended during peak hours. Dress warmly, as the festival is held outdoors until the evening.
