Flavors, music, and markets in the alleys of the Monti Aurunci village

In the small village of Castelnuovo Parano, perched on the Monti Aurunci in the province of Frosinone, the Montecalvo Festival is the most defining event of the year. Now in its 45th edition, it traces its roots back to the Terra district, the oldest part of the village, resting on the hilltop overlooking the valley carved by the Ausente stream.
Castelnuovo Parano was founded in 1065 by the will of Abbot Desiderio of Montecassino, later Pope Victor III, to defend the abbey. This thousand-year-old past can still be felt among the stone alleys of the historic center, which become the natural stage for the festival.
The most anticipated moment is the Food and Wine Trail, a gourmet itinerary winding through the village streets. Along the route, visitors can savor traditional Ciociaria dishes—above all, laina e ceci (pasta with chickpeas)—alongside arrosticini, fried pizza, supplì, and arancini, as well as richer options like seafood lasagna, stewed octopus, and grilled ribs. The tastings are accompanied by local wines and craft beer.
Beyond the gastronomy, the festival is enlivened by roaming musicians, live concerts, craft markets, and children's entertainment. Bands, tribute acts, and folk-rock groups turn the alleys into a series of open-air stages, creating a festive atmosphere that engages both young and old.
The event is organized with the patronage of the Municipality of Castelnuovo Parano, the Province of Frosinone, the Lazio Region, and the XIX Mountain Community "L'Arco degli Aurunci," in collaboration with the Pro Loco and numerous local associations. A collective effort that testifies to how deeply the Montecalvo Festival is felt by the entire community.
For those visiting the Ciociaria region, the Montecalvo Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic Monti Aurunci village, taste the genuine flavors of southern Lazio, and enjoy a day of conviviality amidst history, music, and popular tradition.
The 2026 edition of the Montecalvo Festival has not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to return during the Christmas period in the historic center of Castelnuovo Parano, in the province of Frosinone, with the traditional Food and Wine Trail.
The detailed program—schedules, food stands, and concerts—will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. This page will be updated as soon as official information becomes available.
