The May Day celebration at AgriPark in Castel di Leva, featuring organic farm-to-table fava beans, pecorino romano, and the authentic flavors of the Roman countryside.
The Fava Bean and Pecorino Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events held on May Day in the Municipality of Rome. It takes place at the AgriPark in Castel di Leva, within the IX Municipality, on the grounds of the organic farm Agricoltura Nuova, in a vast green space nestled in the Roman countryside. The event blends a traditional spring rural festival with the rediscovery of local, farm-to-table products, all just a few kilometers from the city center yet far from the urban bustle.
The pairing of fava beans and pecorino is a true symbol of spring in the Lazio region: they are traditionally enjoyed together, with fresh, freshly shelled fava beans eaten alongside shavings of cheese in an ancient, convivial ritual. At the festival, the organic fava beans arrive directly from the fields of Agricoltura Nuova, while the pecorino and ricotta are crafted in the cooperative's dairy at the Decima Malafede estate. The celebration also features the famous porchetta di Ariccia and a rich selection of Roman and Lazio dishes, all paired with wines from the Castelli Romani.
AgriPark provides over a thousand outdoor seats, ample parking, and various refreshment points. Beyond the food, the day offers entertainment for children, the chance to meet farm animals up close, dedicated areas, and wide green spaces to spend a relaxing May Day. Admission to the festival is free: you only pay for what you consume.
The festival is organized by the Agricoltura Nuova cooperative, a historic institution in Roman organic farming that cultivates and processes its own products in the countryside south of the city, between Castel di Leva and Decima Malafede. The event is also an opportunity to learn about the farm's work, its short supply chain, and the value of a rural landscape that thrives on the fringes of the metropolis, within the territory of the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Region.
The 42nd edition of the Fava Bean and Pecorino Festival was held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at AgriPark in Castel di Leva, within the organic farm Agricoltura Nuova, in the Municipality of Rome.
