A journey into Rome's rural memory

Radici e Sapori - Journey through the Agro Romano is a cultural project promoted by the Rome IX EUR Municipality to showcase the identity of the Agro Romano, the immense countryside that has surrounded and nourished the Capital for centuries. The event blends history, tradition, and gastronomy to tell the story of a territory that is a fundamental part of the identity of Rome and the entire Lazio region, often overlooked behind the city's monumental image.

Exhibitions, tastings, and workshops

The heart of the event is the photography exhibition dedicated to the Agro Romano, displayed on panels documenting rural life, transhumance, field work, and ancient agricultural practices of the area. Alongside the exhibition, there is a rich program of guided tastings of local products, curated by technical experts and sensory analysis instructors.

• Cheeses and dairy products with live demonstrations by cheesemakers;
• Wines, extra virgin olive oils, and honeys produced using traditional methods;
• Rustic breads, artisanal focaccias, traditional sweets, jams, and preserves from the local area.

There are also workshops and demonstrations in the outdoor spaces, transforming the visit into an immersive experience that engages sight, taste, hearing, and smell.

The Agro Romano and the IX Municipality

The event is held in the southern quadrant of Rome, in the Divino Amore area of Castel di Leva, one of the most representative territories of the Agro Romano, still characterized today by farms, pastures, and typical produce. The Sanctuary of Divino Amore, a pilgrimage site and identity landmark for the IX Municipality, hosts the event's exhibition spaces in the hall adjacent to the auditorium, next to the Farmers' Market.

Born in 2024 at the Falcognana Senior Center, the festival has grown with each edition, adding a broader rediscovery project to the tastings, which includes guided tours, re-enactments, and a documentary film dedicated to direct testimonies from the territory.

Designed for a wide audience, from the curious to food and wine enthusiasts and families, Radici e Sapori offers free admission. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the authentic flavors of the Roman countryside and to rediscover the deep bond between citizens and their land, in one of the greenest and least-known areas of Rome, in the Lazio region.
