A month of lights, markets, and performances between Pomezia and Torvaianica

Every December, the Municipality of Pomezia, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, brings Natale Pometino to life, a coordinated calendar of Christmas events titled Christmas Magic - Lights and Colors. This is not a single event, but a network of appointments spread over a month, from early December to January 6th, involving both the urban fabric of Pomezia and the seaside district of Torvaianica, overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast.
The two hubs of the festival are Piazza Indipendenza in Pomezia and Piazza Ungheria in Torvaianica, where city trees and light installations are set up to brighten the entire period. Christmas markets develop around these squares, featuring craft stalls, gift ideas, local products, and gastronomy, while the city streets come alive with live music and street performances.
A significant part of the program is dedicated to children and families. The calendar typically includes:
The holidays are also an opportunity to rediscover local heritage: during the Christmas period, guided tours, exhibitions, and special openings of civic museums are offered, including the Lavinium Archaeological Museum, which houses artifacts from ancient Lavinium, and the Pomezia City Museum. Local churches host concerts and events dedicated to the nativity scene tradition.
The most popular moment is New Year's Eve: both in Pomezia and Torvaianica, the squares host an evening of entertainment with comedy-musical shows, live bands, and DJ sets, closed by the traditional fireworks display. The program then concludes on January 6th, the day of the Epiphany, with the arrival of the Befana, children's shows, and the award ceremony for the city competition dedicated to balcony and shop window decorations.
Natale Pometino is a successful example of a widespread festival: it does not rely on a single major event, but on a dense, almost entirely free schedule that accompanies residents and visitors for over a month. For those arriving from Rome, just over half an hour away, it is a simple way to experience the festive atmosphere in a more intimate setting, with the possibility of combining markets, museums, and a winter walk on the Torvaianica seafront.
At the time of verification, neither the dates nor the program for Natale Pometino 2026 have been published. However, the event is a fixed appointment in the municipal calendar: the usual structure includes the lighting of illuminations and city trees in Piazza Indipendenza in Pomezia and Piazza Ungheria in Torvaianica, Christmas markets, workshops and storytelling for children, street performances, openings of civic museums, New Year's Eve in the square with a fireworks display, and the closing on January 6th with the arrival of the Befana.
The detailed program will be published on the official website of the Municipality of Pomezia, in the section dedicated to events and notices.
By car from Rome: take the Via Pontina (SS148), exit Pomezia, about 30 km from the Grande Raccordo Anulare. Torvaianica can be reached by continuing towards the coast. By train: Pomezia-Santa Palomba station on the FL8 Rome Termini - Nettuno line, with bus connections to the center. By bus: Cotral lines from Rome EUR Fermi.
Events in the squares, markets, illuminations, and municipal shows are generally free to attend. Some indoor activities may require reservations.
The program takes place over several days and in two distinct locations (Pomezia and Torvaianica): it is advisable to check the updated calendar on the Municipality's website before leaving. On New Year's Eve, the squares are very crowded; it is better to arrive early and park in the peripheral areas.
