The great shellfish and seafood festival of the lagoon village of Marano
Marano Lagunare is a unique place in Friuli Venezia Giulia: an ancient fishing village overlooking the lagoon, where the culture of the sea and fishing has dictated daily life for centuries. It is in this setting that, between late July and mid-August, Fasolari in Festa comes to life, the most anticipated gastronomic festival of the Marano summer and one of the reference seafood events in the entire region.
The absolute star is the fasolaro, a prized lagoon mollusc, served raw according to local tradition. But the table at Fasolari in Festa is a true encyclopedia of sea flavours: oysters, peverazze (small clams), mussels, sarde in saor, fisherman's antipasto, scampi, and the inevitable mixed fried fish, freshly caught. The food stalls, set up along the streets of the historic centre, open every evening offering exceptionally fresh products, the result of the work of Marano fishermen.
The festival is not just about food. Every evening, live music and DJ sets liven up the squares, while the village fills with visitors strolling among the colourful houses and the piers overlooking the lagoon. The event is deeply linked to the identity of Marano, a town that lives by fishing and through this festival tells its own history and flavours.
For years, Fasolari in Festa has been one of the events that best represent summer along the Friulian coast, attracting visitors from Lignano Sabbiadoro, Udine, and the entire region. In some years, the festival intertwines with the Triennale della Madonna della Salute, the solemn celebration that every three years, in August, enlivens the village with processions in the lagoon. For those who want to discover the authentic gastronomic side of maritime Friuli, the Marano Lagunare event is unmissable.
In 2026, the village of Marano Lagunare will once again host Fasolari in Festa, traditionally held between late July and mid-August. The precise dates will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event. Every evening, the stalls will offer raw fasolari and lagoon specialities, with live music and DJ sets.
The detailed day-by-day programme will be announced in the coming weeks on the event's social media channels. Based on previous editions, the structure includes:
Marano Lagunare can be reached by car from the SS354 towards the lagoon. In summer, a motorboat service runs from Lignano Sabbiadoro. The festival takes place in the historic centre, along Via Roma.
