The travelling classical music festival between the sea and mountains of Friuli
There is a festival that, every summer, transforms the entire Friuli-Venezia Giulia region into a large open-air concert hall. It is Friuli Concertante, the travelling classical music review organised by the Amici della Musica Association of Udine, under the artistic direction of Luisa Sello. From June to September, dozens of concerts reach large and small municipalities, from the coast of Grado to the valleys of Carnia, from fortress cities to inland villages.
The idea is simple and fascinating: to bring great music to places, enhancing the historical, artistic, and natural heritage of the region. Each concert thus also becomes an invitation to discover a place, a church, a villa, a loggia, or a natural vista.
Every year, the festival offers a packed schedule of events spread across numerous municipalities in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The programmes and artists are chosen taking into account the acoustic characteristics of each location, alternating soloists and ensembles in both open-air and indoor spaces. The repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music, enriched by micro-theatre and dance performances.
The venues alone tell the story of the project's variety: basilicas and churches, museums and civic halls, green arenas, mountain valleys, riversides, mills, and vineyards. Among the symbolic locations is the evocative Basilica of Sant'Eufemia in Grado, where the review traditionally begins.
One of the most beautiful aspects of Friuli Concertante is its accessibility: most concerts are free admission, with the exception of events with collateral activities such as museum visits or final toasts. For open-air concerts, alternative venues are always provided in case of bad weather. A precious opportunity to listen to quality music immersed in the beauty of Friuli, for free, all summer long.
The 2026 edition of Friuli Concertante, the tenth, features 40 concerts distributed from June to September in 20 municipalities of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, organised by the Amici della Musica of Udine with the artistic direction of Luisa Sello.
The festival opens on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in the Basilica of Sant'Eufemia in Grado, with the Naonis-Donatello Orchestra. Among the participating municipalities are Grado, Arta Terme, Aquileia, Artegna, Cassacco, Cercivento, Clauiano, Colloredo di Montalbano, Moimacco, Moruzzo, Remanzacco, Palmanova, Paluzza, Paularo, Sutrio, Tolmezzo, Treppo Ligosullo, Venzone, Verzegnis, and Zuglio. The repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary, with micro-theatre and dance performances.
