The LGBTQIA+ pride parade in the heart of Sicily
Enna Pride is the LGBTQIA+ pride event held in Enna, the capital of its namesake province and the highest city in Italy, located in the geographical heart of Sicily. Created to give visibility to the LGBTQIA+ community in an inland territory often considered peripheral to major urban centers, the Enna Pride has quickly become a highly anticipated event, drawing participants from across the island and transforming the historic center into a space for celebration, dialogue, and advocacy.
The heart of the event is the parade, which kicks off from the spectacular Castello di Lombardia, one of the largest medieval fortresses in Italy, and winds along the main city streets, accompanied by a parade float and numerous stops for speeches, testimonials, and musical performances. The march concludes in Piazza Umberto I, in front of the Teatro Comunale Francesco Paolo Neglia, where the final sit-in takes place with speeches from associations and guests. Along the route, colors, rainbow flags, music, and performances blend in an atmosphere that mixes the festive spirit of Pride with the political nature of the demonstration.
The Enna Pride program is enriched every year with live shows and drag performances that animate both the initial gathering at the Castle and the final square. Alongside the artists, activists and representatives of collectives and associations committed to civil rights, gender freedom, and self-determination take the stage. The event is often preceded by fringe events in the days leading up to it, featuring meetings, debates, and cultural deep-dives exploring the roots of dissent and transfeminist struggles.
Enna Pride holds strong symbolic value: bringing LGBTQIA+ rights to a city in the Sicilian hinterland is a gesture of visibility in a context where the community is historically less represented. The event, organized by the Altra Sponda collective, chooses a specific political and cultural theme each year and proudly claims an open, plural, and participatory space in the heart of Sicily.
Enna Pride is generally held in the spring, between late May and early summer. To stay updated on dates, routes, and programs, it is best to follow the channels of the organizing collective and the local Enna press.
The third edition of Enna Pride was held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with a two-day program and transfeminism as the central theme, understood as a political and cultural stance that rejects gender binaries.
The day before, Friday, May 29, hosted the fringe meeting "The Roots of Dissent" at the Al Kenisa space, a moment of discussion on transfeminism and the deconstruction of patriarchal society.
The gathering began at 5:00 PM near the Castello di Lombardia (Piazza Giovanni Rosso), animated by a performance by drag queen Jo Casta. At 6:00 PM, the parade set off, accompanied by a main float, winding through Via Roma with stops and speeches, arriving around 8:00 PM at Piazza Umberto I, in front of the Teatro Comunale F. P. Neglia, for the final sit-in.
Among the most anticipated events was the Spillo Drag Show with Lana Arcisa, Agata Secret, La Malanova, Luna Tika, Mora More, and Pussy Flora. Speakers included Benedetta Tringali from the "Mi cuerpo es mio" counseling center, Liliana Brucato from Non Una Di Meno Caltanissetta, and Eva Sassi Croce. The organizing committee chose not to designate a single spokesperson, asserting that all participants were spokespeople for the event.
To facilitate participation, free shuttles were provided from the Pisciotto parking lot to the Castello di Lombardia between 4:45 PM and 5:30 PM, as well as free buses between Enna Alta and Enna Bassa until 2:00 AM. Along the route and in the Piazza Umberto I area, extraordinary safety and security measures were implemented, with an ordinance prohibiting the sale of beverages in glass containers.
Enna can be reached by car via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Enna exit) and by train via the Enna station, which is connected to the upper city by bus. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, about an hour's drive away.
For the parade, free shuttle buses are usually provided from peripheral parking lots (such as the Pisciotto) to the Castello di Lombardia, in addition to free buses between Enna Bassa and Enna Alta operating until late at night.
Participation in the parade and events in the square is free and open to everyone.
