The Piazza Armerina Opera Festival is a summer opera series that brings masterpieces of the genre to the stunning Piazza Cattedrale in Piazza Armerina, located in the heart of the Enna province. Launched in 2025, the festival transforms one of the city's most iconic landmarks into a grand open-air theatre, where the imposing baroque facade of the Cathedral serves as a natural backdrop for the performances.

A new operatic landmark in the heart of Sicily

The event stems from a collaboration between the Municipality of Piazza Armerina and the Sicilia Classica Festival, under the artistic direction of Maestro Nuccio Anselmo. The project focuses not only on musical excellence but also on promoting the territory and its tourism potential: opera becomes a tool to showcase the 'City of Mosaics', world-renowned for the nearby UNESCO-listed Villa Romana del Casale.

Great repertoire classics

The festival features some of the most beloved and representative titles in melodrama. In its inaugural edition, the festival staged three absolute masterpieces, including Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, Georges Bizet's Carmen, and Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana—the latter being deeply rooted in the Sicilian soul.
