The masquerade parade that lights up the Leonforte summer
The Leonforte Summer Carnival is one of the most original events of the summer in the heart of inland Sicily. While tradition usually relegates masquerade parades to the winter season, the Municipality of Leonforte, in the province of Enna, flips the script, bringing confetti, costumes, and cheer to the height of the warm season. For one night, the historic center of the village turns into a large open-air stage, where masked groups, music, and entertainment light up the streets in a summer parade full of life.
The heart of the event is the masked group parade, the true soul of the Leonforte Carnival. The theme is open: each group can choose its own costumes, style, characters, and creative concept, giving free rein to imagination and irony. Towing vehicles for music are also permitted, provided they are organized safely and are compatible with the parade route, so that each group can march accompanied by its own sound.
The Summer Carnival is, above all, a participatory festival that involves families, friends, and local associations. To register as a group, a minimum of ten people is required, highlighting the collective and convivial nature of the event. The competition between groups is made even more exciting by the prizes: the winning group receives a first prize of 400 euros, a recognition of their creativity, joy, and attention to costume detail.
The event is part of the rich Leonforte summer calendar, which enlivens the town every year with music, theater, shows, and popular gatherings. Founded in 1610 by Count Nicolò Placido Branciforti, Leonforte is a charming village in the province of Enna, famous for its monumental fountains—most notably the Granfonte—and for local products like the renowned Leonforte Peach. The Summer Carnival adds a touch of lightness and festivity to this heritage, capable of attracting visitors and strengthening the community's sense of belonging.
The 2026 Leonforte Summer Carnival will take place on Tuesday, August 18. The evening will be enlivened by the parade of masked groups through the streets of the center, featuring free-themed costumes, music, and accompanying vehicles.
The organization is managed by the Events Office of the Municipality of Leonforte. The detailed program for the evening will be released on official channels in the weeks leading up to the event.

Leonforte is located in central Sicily, in the province of Enna. By car, it can be reached via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Mulinello exit) or via internal state roads. The Leonforte-Pirato train station is a few kilometers from the center. The parade takes place in the town's historic center.
The outdoor event is free for the public to attend. To participate as a group (minimum 10 people), registration is required via the official form provided by the Events Office of the Municipality of Leonforte, usually by the end of July.
As this is a crowded evening event, it is recommended to arrive early and park in the areas outside the historic center.
