About Leonforte Summer Carnival

In the heart of summer, Leonforte transforms into a massive open-air parade: the Summer Carnival brings color, music, masks, and festive groups to the town center. It is an evening designed to amaze, featuring free-themed costumes, floats, musical equipment, prizes for the most creative groups, and the infectious energy of a community that knows how to have fun. An unusual and joyful event, far from the cold of the winter Carnival, that brings the village in the province of Enna to life under the starry August sky.

A Carnival under the August stars

The Leonforte Summer Carnival is one of the most original events of the summer in the heart of inland Sicily. While tradition usually relegates masquerade parades to the winter season, the Municipality of Leonforte, in the province of Enna, flips the script, bringing confetti, costumes, and cheer to the height of the warm season. For one night, the historic center of the village turns into a large open-air stage, where masked groups, music, and entertainment light up the streets in a summer parade full of life.

A grand parade of masked groups

The heart of the event is the masked group parade, the true soul of the Leonforte Carnival. The theme is open: each group can choose its own costumes, style, characters, and creative concept, giving free rein to imagination and irony. Towing vehicles for music are also permitted, provided they are organized safely and are compatible with the parade route, so that each group can march accompanied by its own sound.

  • Evening parade of masked groups through the town streets
  • Open theme, with full creative freedom for costumes
  • Music, dancing, and musical vehicles accompanying the groups
  • Awards for the most original groups

Community spirit and prizes to be won

The Summer Carnival is, above all, a participatory festival that involves families, friends, and local associations. To register as a group, a minimum of ten people is required, highlighting the collective and convivial nature of the event. The competition between groups is made even more exciting by the prizes: the winning group receives a first prize of 400 euros, a recognition of their creativity, joy, and attention to costume detail.

Leonforte, a village of water and tradition

The event is part of the rich Leonforte summer calendar, which enlivens the town every year with music, theater, shows, and popular gatherings. Founded in 1610 by Count Nicolò Placido Branciforti, Leonforte is a charming village in the province of Enna, famous for its monumental fountains—most notably the Granfonte—and for local products like the renowned Leonforte Peach. The Summer Carnival adds a touch of lightness and festivity to this heritage, capable of attracting visitors and strengthening the community's sense of belonging.
