An evening of astronomy, music, and tradition at the Castello di Lombardia in Enna
"And So We Emerged to See the Stars Again" is the summer event that the Pro Loco Enna dedicates to the night sky, hosted in one of Sicily's most evocative settings: the Castello di Lombardia, an imposing medieval fortress that dominates the city from an altitude of nearly 1,000 meters. The title, taken from the final verse of Dante's Inferno, perfectly captures the spirit of the event: looking up, rediscovering wonder, and contemplating the firmament once more.
The heart of the initiative is the astronomical observation curated by the Gruppo Astrofili Catanesi, which sets up stations with professional telescopes in specially darkened areas of the castle. Accompanied by experts, visitors can observe the Moon, planets, and celestial bodies visible in the summer night, exploring astronomical themes in a simple and engaging way. It is an occasion suitable for all ages, which attracts long queues of curious onlookers every year eager to see the sky up close.
Alongside sky-watching, the evening offers a rich program of live entertainment: musical performances, comedy sketches, and acts that bring the fortress courtyards to life. The event alternates between traditional Sicilian repertoires, Italian singer-songwriter classics, and magic shows, in a friendly and festive atmosphere that involves both residents and visitors.
The event is also a journey through local flavors, with a gastronomic area dedicated to typical local products and craft markets. Tastings, stands, and stalls accompany the evening, highlighting the traditions of the Municipality of Enna and the Sicilian hinterland.
Organized by the Pro Loco Enna, "And So We Emerged to See the Stars Again" has established itself as one of the most beloved events of the Enna summer. It takes place in the Province of Enna, in the geographical heart of Sicily, and combines scientific outreach, entertainment, and conviviality in a place steeped in history. A jacket is recommended for the public: at high altitudes, even in summer, the night air at the castle can get crisp.
The 2026 edition of "And So We Emerged to See the Stars Again" returns on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Castello di Lombardia in Enna, confirming its place as one of the highlights of the city's summer calendar. Once again this year, the Gruppo Astrofili Catanesi will manage the astronomical observation stations, allowing the public to observe the sky and delve into astronomy-related topics. The evening is enriched by a musical show dedicated to the hits of two great Italian singer-songwriters and the participation of Mago Plip, in a program designed for the whole family.
