The Christmas festival calendar in the Madonie village of Gangi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Engioy Natale is the festival that celebrates the Christmas season in Gangi, a town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo perched high in the Madonie mountains and officially recognized as one of the Borghi più belli d'Italia (Most Beautiful Villages in Italy). For several weeks, the historic center—with its stone houses huddled together, narrow alleys, and winding staircases—dresses up for the holidays, becoming the stage for a packed calendar of events for all ages, blending culture, music, local flavors, and tradition.
The most anticipated moment is the Living Nativity "From Nazareth to Bethlehem," one of the most evocative in all of Sicily. Hundreds of participants in period costumes bring the courtyards, alleys, and ancient dwellings of the village to life, recreating the Nativity and scenes of daily life from ancient Palestine. A guide in period dress leads visitors on a journey back in time, through ancient crafts, traditional flavors, and seasonal carols.
The Engioy Natale program features a mix of concerts in the multi-purpose hall, theatrical performances in both dialect and standard Italian, Christmas-themed shows, and musical entertainment along Corso Umberto I and in the town squares. There is plenty for children as well, including Santa Claus parties, inflatable play areas, youth-led initiatives, and the traditional Epiphany bingo (tombolata).
Throughout the Christmas period, Gangi's churches and parishes—including Santissimo Salvatore, Santa Maria, Santissima Trinità , and San Leonardo—host artisanal nativity scenes. Visitors can follow a trail from church to church, discovering a blend of faith, art, and popular tradition. Festive illuminations, traditional bagpipers (zampognari), and holiday markets complete the fairy-tale atmosphere of one of the island's most scenic villages.
Promoted by the Municipality of Gangi in collaboration with local associations and parishes, Engioy Natale is more than just a series of events: it is the way the entire Madonie community shares the magic of Christmas with visitors, offering a perfect opportunity to discover the village during its most enchanting season, amidst the scent of traditional pastries and the warmth of Sicilian hospitality.
The complete calendar for the 2026 edition of Engioy Natale in Gangi has not yet been published. The event is traditionally held during the Christmas season in December and will likely continue until Epiphany. Official confirmation of dates and the program is awaited from the Municipality of Gangi.
Gangi is located in the heart of the Madonie, in the province of Palermo. By car, it can be reached from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (take the exits toward the Madonie) and continuing along local roads. The nearest train station is Gangi-Geraci, but arriving by car remains the most convenient option.
The festival takes place during the Christmas season, generally from mid-December until Epiphany (early January). Events are concentrated in the historic center, local churches, and the multi-purpose hall.
Most events, including the Living Nativity and visits to the artisanal nativity scenes, are free to attend. We recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Gangi for the updated program and event times.
