The elderflower festival of Chiaromonte, a traditional Lucanian product
In Chiaromonte, a village in the province of Potenza nestled between the mountains and valleys of the Pollino, the air fills with the scent of elderflowers every spring. The Elderflower Festival celebrates this iconic local product, recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) of Basilicata, in a celebration that combines gastronomy, culture, and music.
In Piazza Garibaldi, food and wine stands offer elderflower-based specialties – from desserts to fritters, from syrups to traditional peasant preparations. Among the most characteristic events is the "Skatturre" workshop, dedicated to rediscovering local knowledge and flavors, and a conference on the value of local products as a regional resource.
The festival also means music and socializing: the evening comes alive with concerts and DJ sets that keep the square dancing until late, in a festive atmosphere that involves locals and visitors alike. An event that highlights a simple yet precious product, a symbol of the agro-food culture of inland Basilicata.
Organized by the Pro Loco Le Torri in collaboration with the Municipality of Chiaromonte, the Elderflower Festival showcases the traditions of the Lucanian Pollino, a village overlooking the Sinni valley, rich in history, scenic views, and hospitality.
