The festival of the new wine tapping in the village of Pollino
In Castelluccio Inferiore, a village in the Pollino area of the Province of Potenza, the arrival of winter coincides with one of the most beloved festivals in the town: A' Pricicchia, the new wine festival. The name derives from the dialectal term "pricicchij", the wooden spigot used to tap wine from the barrel: the entire event, now in its twentieth edition, revolves around the ritual of the first tapping of the new wine, traditionally linked to the Immaculate Conception holiday (December 7-8).
During the festival, the historic cellars and farmhouses in the center open their doors to visitors for a charming food and wine journey through the alleys of the ancient village. In each cellar, you can taste the new wine and specialties of the Lucanian tradition: fried foods like crispedde and "pitticedd' al pomodoro", hot dishes like "cotn e fasul", homemade ravioli, and local typical products. It is a community festival that effectively kicks off the town's Christmas season, in a warm and convivial atmosphere.
Castelluccio Inferiore boasts a historic center of great charm, made up of narrow streets, arches, and stone portals, located at the gates of the Pollino National Park. A' Pricicchia is the time when this heritage comes alive: amidst the aroma of wine, the warmth of lit fireplaces, and the flavors of peasant cuisine, the village transforms into a living stage of Lucanian tradition. An authentic festival, perfect for those who want to experience the winter of the inner Basilicata in the most genuine way, far from the beaten tourist paths.
In 2026, Castelluccio Inferiore will again renew the centuries-old tradition of A' Pricicchia, the new wine festival, around the Immaculate Conception holiday (December 7-8). The precise dates will be announced by the Municipality and the Pro Loco in the weeks prior.
The heart of the festival remains the first tapping of new wine in the historic cellars of the center, open to visitors for a food and wine itinerary through the village alleys, with tastings of wine and Lucanian traditional dishes.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Municipality of Castelluccio Inferiore and the Pro Loco in the coming weeks.
Based on previous editions, the festival typically includes:
