The oldest gastronomic week in South Tyrol, from Vipiteno to Barbiano
Eisacktaler Kost, or the Isarco Valley Gastronomic Week, is one of the most enduring and beloved food and wine events in South Tyrol. Established in 1975, it is considered the oldest "tasting week" in the province of Bolzano, transforming restaurants and hotels across the Isarco Valley into showcases for the finest local cuisine every spring. The historic episcopal city of Bressanone (Brixen) serves as the heart of the event, though the initiative spans the entire valley.
For roughly two weeks, about twenty renowned establishments located from Vipiteno to Barbiano—passing through Bressanone, Chiusa, Villandro, and the Upper Isarco Valley—join the event under the motto "Dishes with a story." Each kitchen interprets the event's theme in its own way, highlighting local ingredients and rediscovering recipes passed down through generations, often updated with modern techniques and presentations.
Eisacktaler Kost is the perfect opportunity to sample the specialties of South Tyrolean and valley cuisine. Featured menu items often include:
Beyond the culinary offerings, the event features a rich program of tastings, readings, guided tours, and events dedicated to food culture, allowing visitors to get to know the valley's producers, wineries, and restaurateurs. It is an authentic way to discover the gastronomic identity of this corner of South Tyrol, where tradition and innovation coexist at the table.
Organized by the HGV-Service Cooperative, Eisacktaler Kost takes place every March and is a highlight of the culinary season in Trentino-Alto Adige. Those visiting Bressanone and the Isarco Valley during this time will find a unique opportunity to pair fine dining with the region's stunning landscapes and artistic heritage.
The 54th Isarco Valley Gastronomic Week was held from March 13 to 29, 2026, involving renowned restaurants and hotels across the valley, from Vipiteno to Barbiano. The theme of this edition bridged tradition and innovation: traditional South Tyrolean dishes were reimagined and perfected with a growing emphasis on using local ingredients.
Alongside the culinary offerings, the program featured tastings, readings, and guided tours, offering visitors a complete immersion into the food culture of the Isarco Valley and the municipality of Bressanone.
For two weeks, participating restaurants and hotels in the Isarco Valley offered dedicated menus featuring reinterpreted traditional specialties. The calendar included tastings, readings, and guided tours at local producers and wineries. The full list of participating venues and side events was published on the official website.
Bressanone is easily accessible by train (Bressanone/Brixen station on the Brenner line) and by car via the A22 Brenner motorway, taking the Bressanone exit. The nearest airport is Bolzano; larger international airports are located in Innsbruck and Verona.
The event takes place at individual participating restaurants and hotels scattered throughout the Isarco Valley, from Vipiteno to Barbiano. We recommend booking directly with the establishments offering the dedicated menus. An updated list of participants and the schedule of side events can be found on the official website: www.eisacktalerkost.info.
The event is held annually in the second half of March for approximately two weeks.
