About Brixen Christmas Market

The Brixen Christmas Market is one of the most enchanting in South Tyrol. Every year, from late November to Epiphany, the scenic Cathedral Square transforms into an Advent village with around 40 wooden huts, local crafts from the Eisack Valley, South Tyrolean culinary specialties, and the spectacular Light & Music Show at the Hofburg. A traditional event in the heart of Brixen's historic center.

The Brixen Christmas Market

In the heart of the historic center of Brixen, in the autonomous province of Bolzano (South Tyrol), the Christmas Market brings the scenic Cathedral Square to life every year. Surrounded by the Baroque architecture of the cathedral chapter and the Hofburg episcopal residence, this Advent market is one of the most beloved and popular Christmas events in the entire region, blending tradition, craftsmanship, and atmosphere.

Crafts and Specialties of the Eisack Valley

Around 40 wooden huts host the exhibitors: local artisans offer nativity scenes, wood carvings, ceramics, scented candles, blown-glass baubles, angels, and handmade decorations, perfect as gifts or tree ornaments. The culinary side is equally impressive, featuring typical specialties of the Eisack Valley: homemade mulled wine, various types of dumplings, and sweet krapfen, all to be enjoyed while strolling through the stalls.

The Light & Music Show at the Hofburg

One of the most spectacular moments is the Light & Music Show, a monumental videomapping projection on the Baroque facades of the Hofburg, accompanied by a soundtrack by the renowned South Tyrolean composer Giorgio Moroder, winner of Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe awards. This immersive show, repeated several times a day during the Advent season, has become a symbol of Christmas in Brixen.

For Families and Children

The market is also designed with little ones in mind: a small ice skating rink near the Hofburg, craft workshops, carriage rides, visits from Santa Claus, and the Christmas Angel who distributes small gifts to children. The official inauguration in late November is traditionally accompanied by the charming parade of the Brixen Christmas angels.

Practical Information

The Brixen Christmas Market is held in Cathedral Square from late November until Epiphany (January 6th). Entry to the market area is free. The event is organized by Brixen Tourism in collaboration with local associations. We recommend reaching the historic center by train or using the peripheral parking lots, given the high attendance on Advent weekends.
