The festival celebrating Favara's iconic treat: almond paste lamb filled with pistachio
In the heart of the Agrigento province, the town of Favara celebrates its most beloved treat every year with the Easter Lamb Festival - The Gold of Favara. The absolute star is the Easter lamb, a pastry masterpiece made of almond paste and filled with pistachio, molded into the characteristic shape of a resting lamb. According to tradition, this dessert originated between the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the kitchens of the Collegio di Maria, and since 2003, it has earned Favara the official title of City of the Easter Lamb.
Founded in 1997 and originally linked to Holy Week, the festival has shifted to late spring and summer in recent years to de-seasonalize the promotion of the product and support it throughout the year. The event has now reached its twenty-eighth edition, confirming its status as a key appointment for the gastronomic and tourist enhancement of the town.
The heart of the festival beats between Piazza Cavour and the evocative Chiaramontano Castle, transformed into a widespread path of stands, scents, and colors. The program is divided into several thematic areas that intertwine culture, devotion, and taste:
Alongside the gastronomic dimension, the festival maintains a strong bond with the religious and popular culture of Favara. The central day is marked by the Holy Mass in honor of Saint Anthony at the Mother Church, the blessing of the bread, and the solemn procession accompanied by the town's marching band, in a blend of faith, community, and local celebration.
Supported by the Municipality of Favara and co-financed by the Sicilian Region as part of the "Sicilia che piace" program, the event aims to combine tradition and tourism development, bringing the name of Favara and its precious "gold" of almond and pistachio to Sicily and beyond. It is an opportunity to discover the most authentic identity of the Agrigento territory through its most representative dessert.
The twenty-eighth edition of the Easter Lamb Festival - The Gold of Favara was held from Thursday, June 11 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, with free admission, between Piazza Cavour and the Chiaramontano Castle. Organized by the Municipality of Favara through the Department of Productive Activities and co-financed by the Sicilian Region with the "Sicilia che piace" program, the edition intertwined gastronomy, culture, and popular devotion.
The opening on Thursday, June 11 featured institutional greetings, the "L'oro di Favara" conference led by chef Giuseppe Moscato, and, in the evening, the inauguration of the stands with music by the band Gli Amici per Sempre. Friday, June 12 was dedicated to the Garden of Artists, demonstrations by Favara's master pastry chefs on almond paste and pistachio, folk performances by the Fabaria group, and a musical trio with violinist Noemi Lupo.
Saturday, June 13, was the day dedicated to Saint Anthony: Holy Mass in the Mother Church, a food and wine debate, the blessing of Saint Anthony's bread with tastings of pane cunzatu, a solemn procession accompanied by the Giuseppe Lentini marching band, and, in closing, a comedy show by Chris Clun. Sunday, June 14, featured medieval parades organized by the Youth Council of Favara, as part of the Sicilian Castles Day, preceding the closing with music and theater at the Chiaramontano Castle.
The festival is held in Favara (province of Agrigento, Sicily), between Piazza Cavour and the Chiaramontano Castle, in the city's historic center.
By car: Favara is located a few kilometers from Agrigento, along the SS640; take the Favara exit. By train: the nearest station is Agrigento Centrale, connected to Favara by local buses.
