About Dozza Wine Trail

The Dozza Wine Trail is the race through the hills and vineyards of Dozza, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy in the province of Bologna. Every spring, trail runners, walkers, and Nordic walking enthusiasts set off from the medieval Fortress to cross a landscape of gentle hills cultivated with vines, gullies, and wineries, with five refreshment points at local farms. The event is part of the Dozza Wine Festival, land of Albana, and combines sport, landscape, and Romagna's food and wine culture in a weekend of celebration.

Running through the Albana vineyards

The Dozza Wine Trail is a running event that every spring transforms the village of Dozza, in the heart of the province of Bologna, into a starting point for the vine-cultivated hills of Emilia-Romagna. From the charming Rocca Sforzesca, participants launch themselves along an off-road course that crosses vineyards, gullies, and breathtaking views, discovering the territory of the land of Albana, the famous white wine of these hills.

The village of painted walls

Dozza is no ordinary village: included in the list of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, it is famous for its Muro Dipinto (Painted Wall), an open-air art gallery that since the 1960s has seen Italian and international artists decorate the facades of the historic center's houses. The Rocca also houses the Regional Wine Bar of Emilia-Romagna, a showcase of the region's wine excellences. Running or walking in Dozza therefore means crossing a landscape where art, wine, and nature merge.

The routes

The event offers routes for every level, all starting and finishing in Piazza Rocca:

  • Competitive and non-competitive Trail of 17 km, with an elevation gain of about 490 meters, reserved for registered athletes for the competitive version;
  • Non-competitive Nordic walking, with the option to choose distances of 4, 10, or 17 km;
  • Non-competitive Walks open to everyone, also over distances of 4, 10, or 17 km;
  • Fun run for children, the Dozza Wine Trail Kid, reserved for the little ones.

Along the route, five refreshment points are set up at local farms, while at the finish line, participants can enjoy the final refreshment, a pasta party, and showers.

Sport and Wine Festival

The Dozza Wine Trail takes place as part of the Dozza Wine Festival, organized by the Dozza City of Art Foundation, which enlivens the village for an entire weekend with tastings, wine tasting stalls from local wineries, exhibitions, live music, and activities for families. The combination of running through the vineyards and the food and wine festival makes the event a highly anticipated occasion for runners and visitors who want to combine sports activities with the discovery of Emilia-Romagna's flavors.

A spring event

Now in its eleventh edition in 2026, the Dozza Wine Trail is a classic on the running calendar of the Municipality of Dozza and the Imola area. The informal and non-competitive format of the walks, combined with the competitive race, makes it suitable for both athletes and families, and for those simply looking for a beautiful excursion through the Romagna hills, with a glass of Albana waiting at the finish line.
