The free festival that animates Montagnola Park from April to October
Montagnola Republic is now a regular fixture of the Bolognese summer: a long cultural and musical festival, with completely free admission, which from the end of April until October enlivens the Montagnola Park, the historic public garden a stone's throw from the station and the historic center of Bologna. Curated by Arci Bologna together with the Arcadia and Millenium clubs, the event transforms one of the most central green spaces of the Emilia-Romagna capital into a place for meeting, music, and urban regeneration, open to all ages.
The heart of the festival is music, with a high-quality program of concerts and DJ sets spanning different genres: from singer-songwriter pop to electronic music, from indie to world music, including Italian singer-songwriter music and international guests. Alongside the live performances, the park hosts theater, street art, stand-up comedy, book presentations, and talks, as well as numerous initiatives for families and children.
The program is divided into several recurring sections: the international festival Global Republic, dedicated to foreign artists, the literary strand Book Republic with author encounters, and Montagnola Kids, with workshops and activities for the little ones. There are also guest festivals that stop by the park, such as the Bologna Buskers Festival dedicated to street artists and the craft beer festival Birrai Eretici.
More than just a calendar of events, Montagnola Republic is a project for the animation and requalification of a public space: for six months, the park becomes a vibrant cultural hub, with a food area, social moments, and a free program that invites citizens, students, and tourists to experience the urban green space. For Bologna, a university city and UNESCO Music Capital, it represents one of the most popular and iconic events of the warm season.
The 2026 edition of Montagnola Republic, the eighth of the festival, opens on April 23 and continues until October 31, always with free admission. The main innovation this year is the introduction of a second stage dedicated to book presentations, talks, stand-up comedy, DJ sets, and acoustic concerts, which expands and diversifies the park's cultural offerings. The food area is entrusted to Cotolร and Da Lรน street food.
The calendar continues throughout the summer until October with the international Global Republic festival, literary encounters of Book Republic (curated by Libreria Sette Volti), and Montagnola Kids workshops for children. The complete program is updated on the official channels of the festival.
