The free admission cultural season at Parco della Montagnola, in the heart of Bologna
In the heart of the Parco della Montagnola, Bologna's oldest historic park just a stone's throw from the station and the city center, the blue kiosk of Frida nel Parco has become one of the most beloved landmarks of the city's cultural life. Open all year round, from April to November it hosts a very dense season โ about two hundred events โ entirely with free admission. It is a project that intertwines music, words, and sociality in an open-air space accessible to all, in the Municipality of Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna.
Frida nel Parco's musical offering is deliberately eclectic and spans without boundaries: from classical music brought to a city park for the first time to world music, from electronic to rock, from jazz to blues to black music and auteur songwriting. Alongside concerts and DJ sets, there are book presentations, documentaries, meetings with authors, family shows, workshops for children, theater, and stand-up comedy. The programming only slows down in the central weeks of August and then resumes until autumn.
Part of the Bologna Estate program and supported by Bologna UNESCO City of Music, Frida nel Parco is much more than a venue: it is a cultural outpost that enhances Parco della Montagnola as a community space. Here, young musicians from the Martini Conservatory, local artists, and international names share the same stage, in an informal setting where culture is truly for everyone.
You can find the updated program, day by day, on the official website and social media channels of Frida. Events are almost daily during the warm season: it's worth stopping by even at the last minute, because between an aperitif and a sunset concert, the Montagnola is one of the most pleasant places in Bologna.
The 2026 season of Frida nel Parco kicks off on April 23 and accompanies Bologna throughout the warm season, until September 27, with dozens of free events at Parco della Montagnola. It starts with a weekend dedicated to border music โ post-punk, dark-folk, and resistance songs around April 25 โ then dives into the heart of summer with tributes, showcases, DJ sets, and concerts by the Conservatory. A multidisciplinary program alternating music, words, and sociality, always with free admission, in the green lung of the Emilia-Romagna capital.
The program continues throughout the summer with new events announced week by week on the official Frida nel Parco website and social media channels.
Frida nel Parco is located within Parco della Montagnola, with entrance from Via Irnerio 2/3, 40126 Bologna (BO). The park is a few minutes' walk from the central station and the historic center.
On foot from Bologna Centrale station in about 10 minutes. By bus, numerous city lines stop near Porta Galliera and the avenues. It is advisable to avoid cars and use public transport or bicycles.
Admission to all events is free. Events are concentrated in the late afternoon and evening; some workshops and family concerts are scheduled at midday or early afternoon. For the updated calendar and to join the broadcast list, consult the official website and social media.
