The historic Imola race between the Racetrack and the Three Hills
The Giro dei Tre Monti is one of the most beloved sporting events in Imola, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in the late sixties, after more than fifty years of history, the event has genuinely preserved its essence: a popular race that is both an athletic challenge and a village festival, capable of attracting thousands of people every year, including competitive runners, walking enthusiasts, and families with children.
What makes the Giro dei Tre Monti special is its route, which intertwines two souls of the Imola territory. It starts and finishes inside the Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Racetrack, the legendary Formula 1 circuit, and then tackles the panoramic hilly route that gives the event its name: the loop around the Tre Monti, the hills overlooking the city. Running on the asphalt that has hosted motorsport champions and then climbing through the vineyards and badlands of the hills is an experience that combines sport, landscape, and local identity.
The event traditionally unfolds over multiple races spread across the weekend, to involve every type of participant:
The Giro dei Tre Monti is organized by A.S.D. Atletica Imola Sacmi Avis with the patronage of the Municipality of Imola. Every year, the event renews its collaboration with the students of the Physiotherapy degree course at the University of Bologna, Imola/Montecatone campus, who provide post-race recovery massages for athletes. A day that, in the words of the organizers and the municipal administration, is above all a celebration of sport, inclusion, and solidarity, capable of uniting the circuit with the Imola hills.
