The patronal festival in the ancient village of Algund, surrounding the Old Parish Church
The Dörflinger Kirchtagsfest is the patronal festival (Kirchtag) of the ancient village of Algund (Lagundo in Italian), a charming town in the Burgraviato district near Merano, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The event takes place in the historic core of the town, known as the Dörfl, in the narrow streets surrounding the Old Parish Church (Alte Pfarrkirche) dedicated to Saints Hippolytus and Erhard, located between St.-Hippolyt-Straße and St.-Kassian-Weg.
The festival is organized by the Algund Volunteer Fire Brigade (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Algund), who transform the old town center into a lively meeting place for residents and visitors every year. The Kirchtag, literally "church consecration day," is one of the most cherished folk festivals in the German-speaking towns of South Tyrol: an occasion that blends the religious significance of the patron saint with the conviviality of a village fair.
Food stalls serving traditional South Tyrolean specialties and drinks are set up along the streets of the old village, while musical accompaniment creates the festive atmosphere typical of South Tyrolean Kirchtags. A highlight is the Dörflinger Glückstopf, the classic charity raffle whose proceeds support the activities of the volunteer fire department. Admission to the festival is free.
Set in one of the oldest and most picturesque areas of Algund, the Dörflinger Kirchtagsfest is a perfect opportunity to discover the town's historical heritage, just a short distance from Merano and the famous Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, amidst the vineyards and orchards typical of the mild Burgraviato climate.
The Dörflinger Kirchtagsfest 2026 is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM, in the narrow streets of the ancient village of Algund around the Old Parish Church (St.-Hippolyt-Straße and St.-Kassian-Weg). The festival, hosted by the Algund Volunteer Fire Brigade, will feature South Tyrolean culinary specialties, drinks, and musical accompaniment, along with the traditional charity Glückstopf. Admission is free. The detailed program with the timing of individual activities will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
