A day of cycling in total freedom across the Dolomite passes
Dolomites Bike Day is one of the most beloved events of the cycling summer in Alta Badia, located in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Each year, on a Sunday in June, some of the most spectacular mountain roads in the UNESCO Dolomites are closed to motorized traffic and reserved exclusively for bicycles: a unique opportunity to climb the legendary Dolomite passes in complete safety and freedom.
The route forms a loop of approximately 51 kilometres with a total elevation gain of 1,370 metres, crossing three mountain passes made famous by the Giro d'Italia and the Maratona dles Dolomites: Passo Campolongo, Passo Falzarego, and Passo Valparola. The route, recommended in a counter-clockwise direction, connects Corvara to Arabba and the Livinallongo valley via Campolongo, continues towards Falzarego and Valparola, and then returns to San Cassiano, La Villa, and Corvara, completing the circle amidst rocky landscapes and high-altitude pastures.
Dolomites Bike Day is not a race: it is a free, open-access day with no registration or timing. Everyone pedals at their own pace, according to their own fitness level. All types of bicycles are welcome: road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes, tandems, vintage bikes, and even trailers for children. It is the ideal event for families, beginners, and expert cyclists who want to experience the Dolomites from a different perspective.
Corvara in Badia is one of the official starting points of the loop, along with San Cassiano, La Villa, Arabba, Pieve di Livinallongo, and Cernadoi. As the tourist hub of Alta Badia, Corvara offers services, rentals, and accommodation that make the day convenient even for those arriving from outside the valley. Along the route, there is no shortage of viewpoints and photo spots to capture the ride among the peaks.
Dolomites Bike Day is part of a season rich in cycling events in Alta Badia, alongside the Sellaronda Bike Day and the famous Maratona dles Dolomites, confirming this corner of the Dolomites as one of the most sought-after destinations for cycling enthusiasts. The car-free roads offer the rare pleasure of climbing the passes while listening only to the whir of wheels and the silence of the mountains.
The Dolomites Bike Day 2026, now in its 9th edition, was held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in Alta Badia. As per tradition, the Campolongo, Falzarego, and Valparola passes were closed to motorized traffic to make room exclusively for bicycles.
The route, a loop of approximately 51 kilometres with 1,370 metres of elevation gain recommended in a counter-clockwise direction, connected Corvara, Arabba, the Livinallongo valley, San Cassiano, and La Villa. Corvara in Badia served as one of the official starting points. The event, free and without registration, welcomed cyclists of all levels on road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes, tandems, and vintage bicycles.
Corvara in Badia can be reached by car via the SS244 Val Badia road. The nearest airports are Bolzano, Verona, and Venice. By train, the reference stations are Bressanone and Brunico, which are connected to Alta Badia by local bus services.
The event is free and does not require registration. During the day, the Campolongo, Falzarego, and Valparola passes remain closed to motorized traffic during the hours indicated by the organizers (typically from morning to early afternoon). Helmets are strongly recommended.
