The premier Langhe event dedicated to Dolcetto, featuring tastings, street food, and music in Rodello.
The Dolcetto Summer Fest is the premier food and wine event through which the Strada del Barolo e Grandi Vini di Langa celebrates Dolcetto, the most widespread and characteristic red grape variety of the Langhe. The heart of the festival beats in Rodello, a small village in the province of Cuneo overlooking the UNESCO-listed hills, where the historic center transforms on Saturday into the largest tasting showcase dedicated to this wine.
Despite its name, Dolcetto is not a sweet wine: it is a dry, fragrant, and immediate red, long the daily wine of Langhe farmers and now rediscovered by a new generation of winemakers. The festival brings together about 40 producers from the main wine-growing areas of Piedmont and offers over 100 labels for tasting, representing the twelve denominations of origin obtained from this variety: from Dogliani to Diano d'Alba, from Alba to Ovada, and beyond.
On Saturday, the program kicks off in the afternoon with a panel discussion at the Teatro Chiesa dei Battuti, reflecting on the future of the grape with guests from the worlds of wine, food, and culture. This is followed by the grand tasting along the village streets, where producers personally present their wines, while street food and music enliven the historic center until late. It is a format that perfectly blends technical insight with the convivial pleasure of a village festival.
The event concludes on Sunday at the Spianamento di San Sebastiano in Diano d'Alba, with an open-air lunch amidst the rolling hills and the awards ceremony for the best Dolcetto of the vintage, selected by a jury of experts. It is the most relaxed and social moment of the weekend, ideal for those wanting to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Langhe.
A central theme of the Dolcetto Summer Fest is the dialogue between tradition and innovation: the festival provides a platform for young winemakers who reinterpret Dolcetto in a modern key, highlighting its versatility and bringing it to international markets. For those looking to discover the authentic face of Piedmontese food and wine in the heart of the Barolo hills, the Rodello stop is an unmissable appointment.
Rodello is located in the province of Cuneo, in the hills just a few kilometers from Alba. By car, it can be reached via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Alba exit), then following signs for Rodello. The nearest train station is in Alba, from where you can continue by car or bus to the surrounding hills.
The Saturday tasting in Rodello is accessible with a tasting pass costing 20 euros when purchased online in advance, which includes tastings, a glass, and a glass holder. The closing lunch on Sunday in Diano d'Alba costs 35 euros per person and requires mandatory booking. For information: [email protected].
The event takes place outdoors in the historic center: comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for village streets are recommended. We suggest pairing your visit with a tour of local wineries and the town of Alba, the capital of the Langhe.
