The border city's grand Christmas celebration
When winter arrives, Gorizia dresses up for the holidays. Dicembre Goriziano is the city's major Christmas event hub, a widespread calendar that runs from late November until January 6th, enlivening the squares and streets of the city center with lights, music, markets, and traditions. Organized by the Municipality of Gorizia with support from the Region, PromoTurismoFVG, and local entities, it's the event that accompanies Gorizia's residents and visitors throughout the festive season.
The heart of the celebration is Piazza Vittoria, where the ice skating rink is set up each year. Meanwhile, the Christmas market comes alive in the Public Gardens with wooden stalls, artisan products, and festive flavors. Illuminations, 3D designs, and videomapping transform buildings and squares, including the evocative Piazza Transalpina, a symbol of the cross-border city.
Among the most popular attractions is the cross-border little train, which connects the various festival locations between Italy and Slovenia, alongside carousels, musical performances, and drone shows. The nativity scene, a true Gorizia Christmas institution, is also featured, along with a packed program of concerts and events for all ages.
Dicembre Goriziano culminates with the New Year's Eve celebrations in Piazza Vittoria, featuring live music, DJ sets, and a midnight fireworks display from the Castle, continuing until Epiphany. A celebration lasting over a month that reflects Gorizia's welcoming, Central European spirit.
Dicembre Goriziano 2026 brings back the usual widespread Christmas program, traditionally running from late November to January 6th. In Piazza Vittoria, the ice skating rink; in the Public Gardens, the Christmas market and nativity scene; in the city center, illuminations, videomapping, and the cross-border train. Throughout the weeks, there will be musical performances, family entertainment, and the grand New Year's Eve finale in Piazza Vittoria.
The detailed schedule for Dicembre Goriziano 2026, including dates for turning on the lights, opening of the ice rink and market, and performances, will be published by the Municipality of Gorizia in the weeks leading up to the start.
