About Dedalo Festival
An artistic gathering in the Sicani Mountains
The Dedalo Festival is one of the most cherished cultural events in Caltabellotta, a picturesque village perched at an altitude of approximately 950 metres on Mount Kratas, in the Sicani Mountains, in the province of Agrigento (Sicily). Founded in 2007 by singer-songwriter and author Ezio Noto, who continues to serve as artistic director, the festival has grown into a highly anticipated summer tradition that blends independent music, visual arts, and social reflection.
A multidisciplinary festival
The programme intertwines diverse artistic languages: singer-songwriter and folk music, theatre, painting, photography, literature, and sculpture. Each edition features concerts, performances, exhibitions, live art workshops, book presentations, and discussions dedicated to current affairs and collective memory. The festival is traditionally held in the Villa Comunale of Caltabellotta, with the support of the local municipality, the CGIL trade union, and local associations.
The Roberto Sottile Prize
A hallmark of the Dedalo Festival is the Roberto Sottile Prize, named after the University of Palermo professor of Italian Linguistics who passed away in 2021. This award is presented to artists who have successfully championed and promoted the Sicilian dialect through their work. Over the years, the prize has celebrated prominent voices from the island's artistic and musical scene.

More than just a festival, the Dedalo Festival serves as a laboratory of ideas for the community. It highlights the historical heritage of Caltabellotta—one of Sicily's oldest towns and the site of the famous Peace of Caltabellotta in 1302—while fostering moments of civic engagement and collective memory. The festival's iconic two-metre-tall sculpture dedicated to the mythological figure of Daedalus (Dedalo) is the work of master sculptor Salvatore Rizzuti.

Location
The festival takes place at the Villa Comunale in Caltabellotta (AG), a village in the Sicani Mountains at an altitude of about 950 metres.
Getting there
By car: Caltabellotta can be reached from Sciacca (approx. 20 km) via provincial roads. The nearest airport is Palermo-Punta Raisi, about a 2-hour drive away. The most convenient train station is in Sciacca, from where you can continue by car or local bus.
Tips
The events take place outdoors during the summer, so comfortable clothing is recommended. As Caltabellotta is a small mountain village, it is advisable to check accommodation options in advance in either Caltabellotta or the nearby town of Sciacca.
