The food and wine showcase of the Belìce Valley, featuring Sicilian wines, flavours, and traditions
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Montevago Wine Festival is the most anticipated food and wine event of the autumn in this small town in the Belìce Valley, in the province of Agrigento. Now in its 28th edition in 2025, the festival celebrates the wine and gastronomic excellence of a territory that is part of the Terre Sicane Wine Route, one of the most dynamic areas for Sicilian wine production, home to award-winning wineries and a strong export focus.
The heart of the festival lies in the tasting stalls set up in the centre of Montevago, where wineries from the Belìce Valley offer their wines for sampling. Alongside the glasses of wine, you will find traditional local products: cheeses, fresh ricotta, cured meats, and specialties from Sicilian peasant cuisine. A much-loved highlight is the Zabbinata, the live preparation of fresh hot ricotta in the square, an ancient ritual that tells the story of the town's deep bond with shepherding and dairy traditions.
The programme alternates between tastings and evening musical performances, with concerts and DJ sets enlivening the squares until late. There is no shortage of folkloric groups performing traditional Sicilian music and dances, entertainment for children, and guided tours of the ruins of old Montevago, destroyed by the 1968 Belìce earthquake: an evocative route, accompanied by nature guides, that blends historical memory with landscape discovery.
Organised by the Municipality of Montevago, the Wine Festival is much more than just a food fair: it is an opportunity for promotion and growth for the entire region, capable of attracting visitors, journalists, and food and wine tourism enthusiasts. For those who want to experience the authentic soul of rural Sicily, amidst glasses of wine, the scent of ricotta, and ancient traditions, Montevago in autumn is an unmissable destination.
The 2026 edition of the Montevago Wine Festival does not yet have official dates: the calendar and programme will be communicated by the Municipality of Montevago in the months leading up to the event. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to take place in the autumn, featuring the usual tasting stalls of Belìce Valley wines, local product samplings, musical performances, and tours of the town's ruins.
The Wine Festival takes place in the centre of Montevago (Province of Agrigento), with the heart of the event located in Piazza della Repubblica and the surrounding streets.
By car: Montevago can be reached from the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway (exits towards Castelvetrano or Santa Margherita di Belìce) and from the state roads of the Belìce Valley. The nearest airports are Palermo Falcone-Borsellino and Trapani-Birgi.
Admission to the event is generally free; wine and food tastings may require tickets or payment at the individual tasting stalls.
We recommend combining your visit to the festival with a guided walk through the ruins of old Montevago and a tour of the wineries along the Terre Sicane Wine Route.
