The Gargano festival of colors in Mattinata
The Cromà Festival is the festival of colors that lights up Mattinata every summer, a town on the Gargano overlooking the Adriatic in the province of Foggia, in the heart of Puglia. Launched in 2024, the event has quickly become one of the most anticipated summer highlights on the Gargano promontory, attracting families, young people, residents, and tourists alike in an atmosphere of joy and participation. Promoted by the Municipality of Mattinata and organized by the ARCI Travel of Stornara association, the festival focuses on the values of inclusion, diversity, and sharing.
The beating heart of the event is the Sunset Color Run, known as the most colorful race in Puglia. It is a non-competitive walk-run of about 1.5 kilometers, open to people of all ages, during which participants are enveloped in clouds of biodegradable and eco-friendly colored powders. At sunset, the streets of the center turn into a moving rainbow, filled with music, smiles, and lightheartedness. Registration, which includes an official t-shirt, can be done online or at the info point set up along Corso Matino.
Cromà is more than just a colorful race: it is a widespread program that brings squares, beaches, and city streets to life for three days. The schedule includes street performances, theater, entertainment, the Children's Village with games and workshops, the Cromà Beach Tour with music and activities on the local beaches, participatory art installations, and free evening concerts. In past editions, the grand finale has featured well-known names from the Italian popular music scene, transforming Corso Matino into a large open-air stage.
The event is part of the rich summer schedule Mattinata èXtraordinaria, which accompanies the Gargano town from June to September with events focused on culture, sports, nature, wellness, and food and wine. Cromà represents one of the highlights of this calendar, showcasing the welcoming identity of Mattinata, its beaches, the historic center, and the tourist appeal of one of the most evocative locations in the Gargano National Park. An opportunity to experience authentic Puglia amidst colors, the sea, and hospitality.
The third edition of the Cromà Festival will be held in Mattinata from July 24 to 26, 2026, confirming its status as one of the highlights of the Gargano summer and the Mattinata èXtraordinaria schedule. The Sunset Color Run, Puglia's most colorful non-competitive race, will return, along with the widespread format featuring street performances, children's games, and musical moments. The detailed program, including times, routes, and guests, will be released by the organizers on official channels and the website www.cromattinata.it in the weeks leading up to the event.
Mattinata can be reached by car via the SS89 Garganica road; the nearest train stations are Foggia and Manfredonia and Manfredonia, which are connected by bus. The reference airport is Bari-Palese, about two hours away.
Admission to the events is free. Registration for the Sunset Color Run can be done online at the official website www.cromattinata.it or at the info point on Corso Matino during the days of the event; participants will receive the official t-shirt.
We recommend wearing comfortable, light-colored clothing for the Color Run. There are numerous accommodation facilities and beach clubs in Mattinata and along the Gargano coast.
