The individual time-trial hill climb of the Biella area, from Cossato to the Sanctuary of Banchette
The Cossato-Banchette Hill Climb is one of the most anticipated events in the amateur cycling calendar of the Municipality of Cossato, in the Province of Biella, in the heart of Piedmont. It is an individual time-trial: each athlete starts alone at set intervals, facing the climb from the valley floor to the Sanctuary of Banchette against the clock. It is a pure, fascinating format where only the relationship between your legs, the gradient, and the passing time matters.
The course covers 8.270 km with an elevation gain of 380 meters, reaching an altitude of 675 meters. The average gradient is around 4.5%, but the route is unforgiving on the steepest sections, where it hits 10%. The race path winds from Valdengo toward the Sanctuary of Banchette along the scenic roads of the Biella area, alternating between gentler sections and demanding ramps. It is a course suited for those who love pure climbing, capable of showcasing the talents of pure climbers and putting even the most well-trained amateur cyclists to the test.
The Cossato-Banchette Hill Climb is one of the stages of the Stars Cup, a time-trial circuit born from the collaboration between Pedale Cossatese and Team Valli del Rosa. It traverses the Biella and Valsesia areas with a series of time-trial climbs spread throughout the season. Participating in the Cossato-Banchette means joining a broader ranking that rewards consistency and regularity across multiple events, while reuniting with the same community of Piedmontese climbing enthusiasts race after race.
Beyond the sporting challenge, the day is a social gathering for the local cycling world. The headquarters is the Bar All'Ombra della Piazza, in Piazza Angiono in Cossato, the meeting point for registration, departures, and awards ceremonies. The event is open to CSAIn, FCI Master, and EPS members and features prizes for the top three finishers in each male and female category, as well as a commemorative jersey for first-time participants. It is an opportunity to experience the genuine spirit of Biella amateur cycling, built on effort, passion, and friendship.
