The Paceco road race, through the town centre at sunset
Corri Paceco is the traditional road race held in Paceco, a town in the province of Trapani, Sicily. Organised by the amateur sports association A.S.D. Paceco Runners and included in the FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) Territorial Calendar, the event attracts runners from across the province and beyond every year, transforming the town centre into a race circuit that symbolically kicks off the Paceco summer season.
The competition is held over a distance of approximately 8,000 metres, consisting of four laps of about 2,000 metres each. The track winds entirely through the town streets on a course closed to vehicular traffic, offering athletes a charming urban setting and spectators the chance to follow the race up close. The meeting point is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, the hub of the historic centre, where bib collection and race pack distribution take place before the evening start.
Corri Paceco is a valid stage of the Senior and Master provincial Grand Prix, both individual and team, and therefore welcomes FIDAL-registered athletes, Runcard holders, and members of Sports Promotion Bodies. Timing is managed by A.S.D. Crono Cusa, while rankings are handled by the Judges' Group. Awards are given to the top male and female finishers overall and the top five in each category.
The event goes beyond pure sporting competition: it is a moment of gathering for the Paceco community, supported by the municipal Sports Department. In recent years, the race has been accompanied by musical performances and entertainment, creating an evening of "sport and music under the stars." Winners are also awarded the Assunta Sugamiele Challenge Trophy, established in memory of a local athlete who passed away prematurely.
Founded in the 17th century and overlooking the Trapani salt pans, Paceco offers a quintessentially Sicilian backdrop where sport and tradition meet. Running through its streets at sunset in the height of summer is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the province of Trapani and western Sicily.
The sixteenth edition of Corri Paceco took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Paceco, in the province of Trapani. The race, organised by A.S.D.
