A half marathon along the coast of the Gulf of Castellammare
The Trappeto City Half Marathon is a road race that challenges runners to tackle the classic half-marathon distance (21.0975 km) through the streets of Trappeto, a small coastal town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily. Nestled on the Gulf of Castellammare, halfway between Palermo and Trapani, Trappeto is an authentic seaside village that transforms for one day into a grand race course, with the sea serving as a backdrop to every kilometer.
The event takes place on a traffic-free urban circuit, with the start and finish line at Piazza Falcone Borsellino. The route alternates between the town's historic center and the seafront, offering athletes views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and an intimate, festive atmosphere. The half marathon is run by completing several laps of the urban circuit, while the Trappeto City Trophy, held over a shorter distance, allows less experienced runners and amateurs to enjoy the event.
The Trappeto City Half Marathon is one of the stages of the regional "Mare e Monti" circuit, the Grand Prix Sicilia half-marathon series that brings together various races across the island. More than just a series of runs, the circuit is a journey through the landscapes, communities, and flavors of Sicily: the Trappeto stage highlights the identity of this small seaside village, combining sport with local promotion.
The event is organized by A.S.D.IL. Universitas Palermo, a sports club affiliated with FIDAL, with the patronage of the Municipality of Trappeto. Timing is managed by MySDAM Sicilia, with rankings and times available on the ENDU platform. The first edition, in September 2025, saw 172 athletes representing over forty Sicilian running clubs at the starting line.
The second edition of the Trappeto City Half Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2026, as indicated by the FIDAL Sicilia marathon and half-marathon calendar. The race, organized by A.S.D.IL. Universitas Palermo, is confirmed as one of the eight stages of the regional "Mare e Monti" Grand Prix Sicilia circuit, which has expanded to eight events in 2026.
As in the first edition, the half marathon (21.0975 km) will be run on a traffic-free urban circuit between the historic center and the Trappeto seafront. A detailed program, start times, registration fees, and the start list will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
Trappeto is located on the Gulf of Castellammare, approximately 45 km from Palermo and 60 km from Trapani. By car, it can be reached via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway (Balestrate-Trappeto exit). The nearest airport is Falcone-Borsellino in Palermo (Punta Raisi), just a few kilometers away.
Registration for the race is done online via the ENDU platform. Participation in the competitive half marathon is reserved for FIDAL members and recognized sports promotion organizations, with a valid competitive medical certificate.
We recommend arriving early to collect your race bib. The village offers beaches and seaside accommodations, perfect for those who want to combine the race with a stay in the Gulf of Castellammare.
