The historic Apulian hillclimb on the SS 172
The Coppa Selva di Fasano is one of the longest-running and most prestigious automotive events in Southern Italy. Organized by the Egnathia Corse racing team, the race takes place in the municipality of Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, transforming the hill leading up to the Selva hamlet into a theater of speed and passion every year. As a qualifying round for the Italian Supersalita Championship and the CIVM Sud (Southern Italian Mountain Speed Championship), the event attracts Italy's finest hillclimb specialists.
The race course winds for approximately 5.6 kilometers along the Strada Statale 172 dei Trulli, starting at the outskirts of Fasano near the Eni service station and finishing at Viale Toledo in Selva. The track features an elevation gain of 257 meters with an average gradient of 4.7%, alternating fast curves and challenging hairpin bends nestled within the Mediterranean scrub and ancient olive groves of the Apulian hinterland. It is a technical and spectacular course, widely regarded as one of the best in the national hillclimb circuit.
Established in 1946, the Coppa Selva di Fasano is one of Puglia's oldest sporting events, celebrating its eightieth anniversary in 2026. Over the course of more than seventy editions, it has hosted the greatest names in hillclimb racing, becoming a benchmark for drivers, manufacturers, and fans across Italy. The absolute record-holder of the event is Florence's own Simone Faggioli, an almost unbeatable protagonist on the Fasano track.
The event spans an entire weekend in late May: Friday is dedicated to technical and sporting scrutineering, Saturday to practice runs, and Sunday to the two race heats, typically starting at 9:00 AM. The cars, divided into groups and classes, launch one after another against the clock, with the sum of the times determining the final standings. The event is broadcast on ACI Sport TV.
Located between Bari and Brindisi on the southern Murgia hills, Fasano is famous for its Selva—a renowned holiday destination overlooking the Adriatic—and for the heritage of trulli and masserie that define the landscape. During the Coppa Selva weekend, the area comes alive with visitors; the hillclimb is now an integral part of Fasano's identity and a major tourism driver for the province of Brindisi and all of Puglia.
The 2026 edition, marking the eighty years of the event, saw a record participation with 228 registered drivers. The weekend followed the traditional program: technical scrutineering on Friday, practice runs on Saturday, and two race heats on Sunday, May 31, starting at 9:00 AM along the SS 172. Simone Faggioli once again triumphed in his Nova Proto NP01, securing his thirteenth victory in Fasano with a time of 2'07"87, just 59 hundredths of a second off the absolute record. He was followed by Luigi Fazzino (Osella PA30-Zytek) and Stefano Di Fulvio (Nova Proto NP01), who finished just 12 hundredths behind second place.
Start along the SS 172 at the outskirts of Fasano, near the Eni service station; finish at Viale Toledo in Selva. Live broadcast on ACI Sport TV.
Fasano can be reached by car via the SS 16 Adriatica or the SS 172 dei Trulli; by train via the Fasano station on the Adriatic line; or by plane via the Bari-Palese and Brindisi-Casale airports, both about an hour away.
The race takes place along the SS 172 between Fasano and the Selva di Fasano hamlet, usually on the last weekend of May. The starting line is located at the edge of the town center.
The event can be viewed for free from public vantage points along the course; the paddock and restricted areas are subject to organizational regulations. For schedules, registration, and rules, please visit the official website fasanoselva.com.
