Celebrations in honor of Maria SS. del Pozzo in the village of Fasano
In the heart of summer, the village of Montalbano di Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, experiences its most intense days with the Patronal Festival in honor of Maria SS. del Pozzo. Every year at the end of July, this event brings the entire community together: the streets light up with artistic illuminations, brass bands parade through the town, and Piazza della Libertà becomes the stage for grand evening shows. It is a festival that unites the sacred dimension of the Marian cult with the warmth of Apulian popular tradition.
The festival is dedicated to Maria Santissima del Pozzo, also known as the Madonna of Pozzo Faceto, who is venerated as the patron saint of the village. The cult is deeply rooted in the rural devotion of the Fasano area and remains a powerful symbol of identity for the people of Montalbano today. During the festival days, the image of the Patron Saint is carried in procession among the faithful, accompanied by the notes of the bands and the quiet reflection of the community.
As is typical of the best patronal festivals in Southern Italy, the program alternates between religious moments and secular events. The three-day preparation period precedes the solemn days, featuring the Rosary and Eucharistic celebrations; the procession of the image of Maria SS. del Pozzo and the subsequent solemn procession represent the spiritual heart of the event. The festivities are framed by artistic illuminations, brass band performances, vernacular theater shows, sports and recreational activities, and the unmissable fireworks display that lights up the village night.
One of the elements that makes the Montalbano Festival famous is the series of free concerts hosted in Piazza della Libertà, which over the years have featured well-known names from the Italian music scene. The grand finale is traditionally entrusted to a major guest, drawing thousands of people to the square for an evening of celebration open to everyone.
Montalbano is one of the villages in the Municipality of Fasano, in the heart of Apulia, a short distance from the famous Selva di Fasano and the coastline of Savelletri and Torre Canne. The patronal festival is part of the rich summer calendar of the Fasano area and, together with the main town festival of Fasano, is one of the most anticipated moments of the summer in the province of Brindisi.
From July 26 to 29, 2026, the village of Montalbano di Fasano celebrates its Patron Saint, Maria SS. del Pozzo, with traditional festivities combining religious rites and popular events. The setlist will feature the group's greatest hits, from "Anima mia" to "Un'altra donna" and "Innamorata". The event is part of the rich Wow! Fasano 2026 program.
