Every summer, the Playa beach in Castellammare del Golfo, in the heart of Western Sicily and the province of Trapani, transforms into a massive sandy court for the Coast Cup, the most important youth beach volleyball event in Southern Italy. For four days, the sandy waterfront near the Peter Pan lido welcomes dozens of teams and hundreds of young athletes from across Sicily and beyond, in a festive atmosphere that combines sport, sea, and social connection.
A history spanning nearly twenty years
The Coast Cup was founded in 2005 by the A.D. Polisportiva Castellammare with the goal of showcasing the town's coastline and introducing young people to beach volleyball. Edition after edition, the tournament has grown into a cornerstone of the national youth sand volleyball calendar, attracting over fifty teams and more than three hundred and fifty athletes, accompanied by families, coaches, and fans who fill the beach for the duration of the matches.
Categories and game format
Matches are played in a 4x4 format and involve youth categories registered with the Italian Volleyball Federation: Under 15, Under 17, and Under 19 for boys and Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18 for girls. Teams from the Sicilian provinces of Trapani, Palermo, Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Enna, and Syracuse compete on the courts set up on the sand, with some editions even featuring teams from Northern Italy and abroad.

More than just a competition, the Coast Cup is a sports tourism event that brings the Castellammare del Golfo coastline to life from morning until night, with matches running from dawn until sunset. The backdrop of the Gulf, the crystal-clear waters, and the summer atmosphere provide the setting for an event that blends competition, fun, and local promotion. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Castellammare del Golfo and is part of the rich summer calendar of events in the province of Trapani, Sicily.
Coast Cup — edition 2026
The 19th edition of the Coast Cup is scheduled from July 1st to 4th, 2026, on the Playa beach in Castellammare del Golfo (TP), with matches running from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. For 2026, the tournament confirms the formula that has ensured its success: youth beach volleyball challenges in a 4x4 format for FIPAV youth categories, spread across the courts set up on the sandy waterfront. Detailed program information, match schedules, and participating clubs will be released by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.

How to get there
By car: A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, take the Castellammare del Golfo exit, then follow signs for the town centre and the Playa waterfront. By train: Castellammare del Golfo-Alcamo station, connected to the centre by bus. Nearest airports: Trapani-Birgi, or alternatively Palermo-Punta Raisi.
Admission
Public access to the beach to watch the matches is free. Participation is reserved for sports clubs affiliated with the FIPAV via registration.
