International powerboat racing takes on the Adriatic off the Gargano coast
Rodi Garganico, a small gem overlooking the Adriatic in the heart of the Gargano, in the province of Foggia, has for years been a key stop on the Class 3D Offshore World Championship circuit. The stretch of water in front of the tourist port transforms into a genuine race track, where powerful catamarans battle at impressive speeds on a 6-mile course laid out before the town.
The event is organized in collaboration with the FIM - Italian Powerboat Federation under the aegis of the UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) and brings together crews from all over Europe: Italians, French, Swedes, Finns, and Norwegians compete for world championship points in one of the season's most anticipated events, often serving as the opening stage of the global calendar.
The event hosts multiple competitions simultaneously: in addition to the Class 3D World Championship (one-make catamarans with 250 hp Mercury engines), the Italian Offshore 5000 Championship and the Offshore One Green Class also take place. The latter is an innovative and sustainable category featuring catamarans powered by a single 150 hp low-impact engine. This focus on sustainability represents one of the most significant developments in the discipline in recent years.
The event is more than just sport: it is a celebration that involves the entire municipality of Rodi Garganico and draws tens of thousands of fans and curious onlookers to the province of Foggia. The races can be viewed for free from the beach, the pier, and the promenade, with catamarans speeding just a few hundred meters from the shore, offering thrills that are hard to find elsewhere. The final day is broadcast via live streaming on the official channels of the Italian Powerboat Federation and the tourist port.
The setting is one of the most beautiful villages in Puglia: the perched historic center, golden beaches, and citrus groves that have made Rodi Garganico famous provide the backdrop for a weekend that combines top-tier international sport with the discovery of the Gargano territory.
The 2026 edition, the first stage of the Class 3D Offshore World Championship, brought ten one-make Mercury 250 hp catamarans to Rodi Garganico for three days of racing on the 6-mile circuit. The event also hosted the Italian Offshore 5000 Championship and the absolute debut of the Offshore One Green Class, featuring sustainable motor catamarans. Tens of thousands of spectators watched the show from the Gargano beach. Victory went to the D96 Foresti&Suardi crew, François Pinelli and Saul Bubacco, ahead of Gasbeton D10 and Tessilmare D6.
The final day was broadcast via live streaming on the official FIM and Rodi Garganico tourist port channels.
