About CIVS Lo Spino

The CIVS — Italian Motorcycle Hill Climb Championship round in Pieve Santo Stefano (Arezzo Province, Tuscany) is a thrilling time-trial race where motorcycles, quads, and sidecars challenge the clock along the historic SP208 della Verna road towards the Passo dello Spino. Organized by the Moto Club Paolo Tordi Cesena, the event brings together over 130 Italian and international riders across speed, Crono Climber, and vintage classes. The 2026 edition took place on May 2nd and 3rd, marking the season opener amidst the woods of the Valtiberina valley.

The Passo dello Spino motorcycle hill climb

The CIVS — Italian Motorcycle Hill Climb Championship stops in Pieve Santo Stefano, in the heart of the Valtiberina, in the Province of Arezzo and the heart of Tuscany. It is one of the most beloved motorcycle hill climbs on the national calendar: motorcycles, quads, and sidecars launch themselves uphill along the hairpin bends of the Strada Provinciale 208 della Verna, racing against the clock up to the Passo dello Spino. The race track starts from Via della Verna 73 (SP208 km 38+540) and ends at km 36+130, on a route made famous by decades of hill climb racing history.

A round of the national championship

The event is a valid round of the Italian Speed Hill Climb Championship organized by the FMI (Italian Motorcycle Federation) and is part of the "Virus Power CIVS" circuit. In Pieve Santo Stefano, the race takes the form of an MBE Round, which adds the Crono Climber trophy to the championship, opening entries to amateurs and enthusiasts. Each edition attracts over 130 riders from all over Italy and abroad, divided into numerous classes: from modern Super Open 600, 800, and 1000 to Naked, Supermoto, Under, and Entry categories, as well as quads, sidecars, and the fascinating vintage bikes of the Epoca class.

Two days of roaring engines on the hairpins

The race weekend follows an intense schedule repeated on both days: practice in the morning, qualifying in the mid-morning, and two race heats in the afternoon. The ascent, nestled in the woods of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, offers the public spectacular viewing points along the hairpin turns, where one can admire the speed and skill of the riders up close.

A local motorsport tradition

  • Race valid for the Italian Motorcycle Hill Climb Championship (FMI)

Lo Spino, a legendary name in hill climbs

The Passo dello Spino ascent has been part of the history of Italian car and motorcycle racing since the sixties and is now a fixed appointment for those who love hill climbs. The Pieve Santo Stefano stage combines a passion for engines with the landscape of the Tuscan Valtiberina, in a weekend that brings the town and the entire valley to life with roaring engines, the scent of gasoline, and the enthusiasm of the crowd.
