The City of Honey Trophy is the running event that brings the streets of Tornareccio to life every spring. This small town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, is nestled in the hills overlooking the Sangro Valley. Known as the "Abruzzo capital of honey" and famous for its stunning village of mosaics, Tornareccio has welcomed runners and enthusiasts from across the region and neighboring Molise for years.

The race is organized by ASD Pallano Outdoor with the patronage of the Municipality of Tornareccio and the collaboration of OPES Abruzzo. What began as a local gathering has grown over the years into one of the most popular stops on the Abruzzo running calendar, attracting hundreds of participants to the starting line.

The Course and Races

The sports program features several events designed for athletes of all levels and ages:

• Competitive race of approximately 10.6 kilometers, on a route winding through the village streets and surrounding country roads;
• Non-competitive walk of 5 kilometers, open to everyone, ideal for those wanting to soak up the atmosphere without the pressure of a stopwatch;
• Youth events with heats dedicated to children and teenagers, with distances adjusted by age group.

The meeting point is Viale Don Bosco, near the middle school, which serves as the start and finish line for all races.

Sport, Nature, and Tradition

The City of Honey Trophy is more than just a race: it is a festival that weaves sport with local identity. The event is surrounded by various side initiatives, such as guided tours of the Mosaic Museum, which highlight the village's artistic vocation, and opportunities to taste local specialties, starting with the famous Tornareccio honey. There is also a technical section for runners, featuring free running shoe trials provided by technical sponsors.

The awards ceremony celebrates both athletic performance and participation, with prizes for the top overall finishers and category winners, recognition for the largest teams, and medals and trophies for the youth categories. All this takes place in a festive atmosphere that makes the City of Honey Trophy one of the most cherished events of the Abruzzo spring sports season.
