An opera and symphonic season featuring concerts and musical talks in the heart of Abruzzo
The Città Sant'Angelo Music Festival is the flagship classical music event of the town of Città Sant'Angelo, in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo. Established in 2016, the festival has transformed this small hilltop village overlooking the Adriatic into a regional hub for opera and symphonic music, with a season spanning seven months, from November to May.
Under the artistic direction of Maestro Alessandro Mazzocchetti and organized by the Nicola Polidoro Foundation in collaboration with the municipal administration, the festival curates a thematic program each year that weaves together opera, symphonic concerts, ballet, and the renowned musical conversations—engaging talks that bring audiences closer to great masterpieces and their creators. The seasons often revolve around a narrative thread, connecting diverse composers from Rossini and Bellini to Verdi, Puccini, Tchaikovsky, and Saint-Saëns.
The heart of the festival is the intimate Teatro Comunale of Città Sant'Angelo, complemented by other evocative local settings such as the Collegiate Church of San Michele Arcangelo and the Tenuta Coppa Zuccari, the latter being the primary venue for outdoor summer events. This approach allows music to dialogue with the historical and landscape heritage of the village, one of the most beautiful in Abruzzo, nestled among medieval alleys and vistas that stretch from the hills to the sea.
Beyond the main program, the festival offers exhibitions, meetings, and original productions involving nationally acclaimed orchestras, conductors, and soloists. This formula, which balances high artistic quality with accessibility, has made the CSA Music Festival a highly anticipated event not only for Abruzzese enthusiasts but also for a wider audience, contributing significantly to the cultural life and tourism appeal of Città Sant'Angelo.
Supported by the Abruzzo Region, the festival now stands as one of the most established musical experiences in the province of Pescara: a project that promotes the operatic and symphonic repertoire while celebrating the host village, inviting residents and visitors alike to discover classical music in an intimate and charming setting.
The 2025-2026 season of the Città Sant'Angelo Music Festival marked the tenth edition of the event, celebrating ten years of activity since its founding in 2016. The program, developed from November to May between the Teatro Comunale and other village venues, featured opera, symphonic music, musical talks, and exhibitions.
The inauguration took place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Teatro Comunale with the Italian Sinfonietta and Maestro Patrick De Ritis, exploring opera fantasies from Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Tosca. Subsequent highlights included Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite (December 21), symphonic concerts dedicated to Haydn and Wagner (February 22), and musical talks on Bellini's Norma, the women of Rossini, and freedom in music.
Among the most anticipated events was Camille Saint-Saëns' The Carnival of the Animals (March 29), a fusion of music and theater directed by Giacomo Nappini and Maestro Alessandro Mazzocchetti. The season concluded in May with the staging of Gioachino Rossini's opera L'italiana in Algeri and the opening of the photographic exhibition Visual Resonances: Ten Years of Music.
Città Sant'Angelo can be reached by car via the A14 motorway (Città Sant'Angelo-Pescara Nord exit), located just a few kilometers from the exit. By train, the nearest station is Pescara Centrale, which is connected to the village by local bus lines; the nearest airport is the Abruzzo Airport in Pescara.
Performances are held primarily at the Teatro Comunale, with options for season subscriptions or single-event tickets. For pricing, reservations, and availability, please contact the organizers.
