About Cingoli Cellinesi Festival

Every summer, the Teramo village of Cellino Attanasio celebrates its most iconic dish: Cingoli Cellinesi with duck sauce. This long, rustic, handmade pasta was once prepared by the friars of the local Franciscan convent. Organized by the Pro Loco, the Cingoli Cellinesi Festival brings five evenings of life to the evocative setting of the former convent and the Belvedere, featuring tastings of local products, live music, dance nights, and artisan markets in the heart of Abruzzo.

The signature festival of Cellino Attanasio

The Cingoli Cellinesi Festival is the most anticipated gastronomic event of the summer in Cellino Attanasio, a small medieval village in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. Organized by the Pro Loco Cellino Attanasio with the patronage of the Municipality, the event draws thousands of visitors to the historic center and its ancient walls every year.

Cingoli, the pasta of the friars

The absolute stars of the festival are the Cingoli Cellinesi with duck sauce, a traditional and ancient pasta shape: about thirty centimeters long and a few millimeters wide, once crafted entirely by hand. Tradition links them to the Franciscan friars who resided in the village convent—the same one that, according to local memory, hosted Saint Francis of Assisi—for whom these were the dish of feast days. Even today, they are dressed with a delicate duck ragù and served in characteristic terracotta bowls.

A village in celebration

The festival takes place in the splendid setting of the former Franciscan convent and the Belvedere, overlooking the Teramo hills. In addition to the cingoli, food stalls offer other local flavors: prosciutto, sausages and fried peppers, fried pizzas, and traditional Abruzzese desserts. The evenings are enlivened by live music, ballroom dancing, DJ sets, and pop music, while the streets of the center host artisan markets and activities for families and children.

Tradition and community

More than just a village festival, the event is a moment of collective identity for the Cellinese community: an opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of the Teramo hinterland and experience the convivial atmosphere of the village on summer nights. The festival also highlights the town's heritage, among the walls, alleys, and monuments of the historic center of Cellino Attanasio.
