Duck sauce cingoli in the village of Cellino Attanasio
The Cingoli Cellinesi Festival is the most anticipated gastronomic event of the summer in Cellino Attanasio, a small medieval village in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. Organized by the Pro Loco Cellino Attanasio with the patronage of the Municipality, the event draws thousands of visitors to the historic center and its ancient walls every year.
The absolute stars of the festival are the Cingoli Cellinesi with duck sauce, a traditional and ancient pasta shape: about thirty centimeters long and a few millimeters wide, once crafted entirely by hand. Tradition links them to the Franciscan friars who resided in the village convent—the same one that, according to local memory, hosted Saint Francis of Assisi—for whom these were the dish of feast days. Even today, they are dressed with a delicate duck ragù and served in characteristic terracotta bowls.
The festival takes place in the splendid setting of the former Franciscan convent and the Belvedere, overlooking the Teramo hills. In addition to the cingoli, food stalls offer other local flavors: prosciutto, sausages and fried peppers, fried pizzas, and traditional Abruzzese desserts. The evenings are enlivened by live music, ballroom dancing, DJ sets, and pop music, while the streets of the center host artisan markets and activities for families and children.
More than just a village festival, the event is a moment of collective identity for the Cellinese community: an opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of the Teramo hinterland and experience the convivial atmosphere of the village on summer nights. The festival also highlights the town's heritage, among the walls, alleys, and monuments of the historic center of Cellino Attanasio.
The 28th edition of the Cingoli Cellinesi Festival is scheduled from July 22nd to 26th, 2026 in Cellino Attanasio, in the province of Teramo. As per tradition, the festival takes place in the former Franciscan convent and the Belvedere area, with food stalls dedicated to cingoli with duck sauce and other flavors of Abruzzo.
The five evenings will be enlivened by live music, dancing, and local artisan markets. The complete program of performances and musical guests will be announced by the Pro Loco Cellino Attanasio, which organizes the event with the patronage of the Municipality, in the weeks preceding the festival.
Cellino Attanasio can be reached by car from the Val Vomano (A24) or Roseto degli Abruzzi/Atri-Pineto (A14) motorway exits, then continuing along the roads of the Teramo hinterland. The nearest train station is Atri-Pineto, on the Adriatic line, from where you can continue by car.
Admission to the festival is free; payment is made at the food stand counters. The evenings are held outdoors: it is recommended to arrive early on the busiest weekend days.
