The signature pasta with wild arugula from the Cinque Reali Siti, in Ordona
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every summer, the town of Ordona, in the heart of the Tavoliere plain in the province of Foggia, celebrates one of its most iconic dishes with the Cing'l e Rucl Festival. The event, traditionally held on Via Metta, turns an August evening into a grand celebration of flavor and community, dedicated to the rustic cuisine of the Capitanata region.
«Cing'l e rucl» is the gastronomic symbol of Ordona, one of the Cinque Reali Siti established in the 18th century by King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, alongside Orta Nova, Carapelle, Stornara, and Stornarella. It is a fresh, handmade pasta made from water and flour, seasoned with wild arugula, often called the «princess of the Tavoliere's wild herbs». A simple, honest dish that tells the story of this land's agricultural history and the culinary wisdom of Ordona's local cooks.
The festival combines the tasting of traditional dishes with a lively, popular atmosphere: between a delicious meal, a glass of local wine, and musical entertainment, Via Metta fills with residents and visitors alike. Food stalls offer «cing'l e rucl» alongside other Apulian specialties, while music and performances keep the evening going until late.
Located in the province of Foggia, in Apulia, Ordona stands next to the ancient Herdonia, a Roman-era city often nicknamed the «Pompeii of Apulia» for its archaeological park featuring a forum, shops, and an amphitheater. Attending the festival is a perfect opportunity to discover a village steeped in history, nestled in the landscape of the Tavoliere delle Puglie.
With free admission and a deeply authentic spirit, the Cing'l e Rucl Festival is designed for families, curious travelers, and food lovers. It is one of those events that allows you to experience the genuine hospitality of the Capitanata and rediscover the authentic flavors of Apulian cuisine.
The Cing'l e Rucl Festival is expected to return to Ordona in the summer of 2026 to celebrate the rural cuisine of the Tavoliere. At the moment, the official dates and detailed program have not yet been released: the event is usually held on Via Metta during the first days of August. We recommend checking for updates on the official channels of the Municipality of Ordona and local associations.
Ordona is located in the Tavoliere area, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached via the SS16 or the A16 motorway (Cerignola Est exit), approximately 25 km from Foggia. The nearest train station is in Foggia, which is connected to the town by local bus services.
The festival is held on Via Metta, in the center of Ordona. Admission is free; food and drinks can be purchased at the various stalls.
As this is an evening summer event, we recommend arriving early to find a spot and combining your visit with a tour of the nearby Herdonia archaeological park.
