The village festival for the June 2nd long weekend in the Val di Merse
Ciciano in Festa is the popular event that, every year during the June 2nd long weekend, brings the small village of Ciciano to life. This hamlet of just over three hundred inhabitants is part of the Municipality of Chiusdino, in the province of Siena. Nestled at an altitude of about 500 meters among the Colline Metallifere, within the lush Val di Merse, the village dresses up to welcome residents and visitors in the convivial atmosphere typical of Tuscan village festivals.
The festival is the result of collaboration between local organizations: the Circolo Arci Ciciano APS, the Associazione Palla Eh!, and the Val di Merse Tennis Club ASD. It is this union of forces that gives the event its authentic character, defined by volunteer work, participation, and love for the village. Over the years, "Ciciano in Festa" has grown into a highly anticipated date on the Val di Merse calendar.
The program spans the long weekend, weaving together diverse activities designed for all age groups. The village streets host a market featuring hobbies, collectibles, and crafts, while street food stalls allow visitors to savor genuine dishes in the open air. There is no shortage of evenings dedicated to live music, dancing, and karaoke, as well as tournaments (from card games like briscola to sports competitions), outdoor games for children, and hikes to discover the trails winding through the valley's woods.
The central moment of the festival coincides with Republic Day: on June 2nd, the village experiences its most intense day, featuring trekking, strolls through the market stalls, and street food tastings. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Sienese countryside, far from mass tourism circuits.
In a territory famous for gems like the Abbey of San Galgano and the sword in the stone at Montesiepi, located just a short distance from Chiusdino, "Ciciano in Festa" offers the most authentic experience of rural Tuscany: that of small communities coming together, village cuisine, and sincere hospitality. An ideal event for those seeking a slow weekend immersed in nature and the traditions of the Val di Merse.
For the 2026 edition, the village of Ciciano renewed its village festival, spread across the June 2nd long weekend. The event, organized by the Circolo Arci Ciciano APS together with local associations, offered music, markets, street food, and moments of conviviality for all ages in the setting of the Val di Merse.
The central day of June 2nd, Republic Day, featured trekking, strolls through the market stalls along the village streets, and street food offerings, available from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
On Sunday, May 31, and Monday, June 1, the program included, as per festival tradition, live music, dancing, and convivial moments. For full details on schedules and initiatives, please refer to the organizers' official page.
Ciciano is a hamlet in the Municipality of Chiusdino (SI), in the Val di Merse. By car, it can be reached from Siena by taking the SS73 towards Massa Marittima/Grosseto and following the signs for Chiusdino and Ciciano (about 40 km from Siena). The nearest airport is Florence-Peretola.
Access to the festival and the market is free. Tastings, street food, and social dinners are subject to charges according to the associations' price lists.
We recommend comfortable clothing for trekking and walking the valley trails. For updated details on schedules and the program, it is useful to follow the Circolo Arci Ciciano Facebook page.
