CiaspoLares: a night with snowshoes above Bolbeno

CiaspoLares is the traditional night-time snowshoe hike that kicks off the year in the municipality of Borgo Lares, in the Giudicarie Esteriori area, in the province of Trento and in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Every early January, dozens of participants meet at nightfall to strap on their snowshoes and head out under the stars along the snowy paths that wind through the woods above the village of Bolbeno.

The route and the Madonna del Lares Sanctuary

The walk starts from the bottom of the Borgo Lares Ski Center slopes, on Via Sant'Antonio, and covers a total distance of about 6 km round trip. It is an easy itinerary, designed to be accessible to everyone: children aged five and over can also participate, accompanied by their parents. The destination is the Madonna del Lares Sanctuary, one of the places most cherished by the local community, immersed in the silence of the woods and made even more evocative by the night-time atmosphere and the blanket of snow.

The bonfire and refreshments halfway

What makes the evening special is the stop halfway, where a crackling bonfire and a hot drink warm the walkers and create a typically Trentino moment of conviviality. The snowshoe hike takes place regardless of snow conditions: if there is no snow, the excursion still goes ahead, simply without snowshoes, following the same program.

Organizers

CiaspoLares is promoted by the Pro Loco Bolbeno together with the Borgo Lares Ski Center and the Sci Club Bolbeno. The event was born from the desire to bring the territory to life even during the cold season and to enhance the paths and spiritual heritage of the village, involving residents, families, and mountain enthusiasts in a simple experience accessible to all.

Suitable for those looking for an outdoor activity away from the crowds, CiaspoLares is an authentic way to discover the Trentino mountains in winter: no competition, just the pleasure of walking in the snow, looking at the starry sky, and sharing an evening in good company. The municipality of Borgo Lares, created in 2016 from the merger of the villages of Bolbeno and Zuclo, thus offers one of its most characteristic winter events.
