Stalls, illuminations, and performances along Via Napoli in Villaricca

For a few days in December, Via Napoli, one of the main thoroughfares in Villaricca, completely changes its look: lights illuminate the facades, wooden huts line the sidewalks, and the street becomes, as local chronicles describe it, a true Santa's Village. This is the concept behind the Via Napoli Christmas Markets, the event that in recent years has officially opened the holiday season in this town within the Naples Metropolitan City, in Campania.
This is not a fair contained within a pavilion, but a widespread event experienced while walking: stall after stall, the scent of sweets, background music, and children queuing to deliver their letters. The audience is primarily local—families from Villaricca and neighboring towns in the northern Neapolitan hinterland such as Giugliano in Campania, Qualiano, Mugnano di Napoli, and Marano—and the atmosphere remains that of a classic, recognizable village festival transplanted into an urban setting.
The heart of the event is the market itself, set up along the road and sidewalks of Via Napoli. The offering revolves around a few well-balanced elements:
It is a model that works because it combines two things: the desire to stroll under the lights and the practical possibility of shopping close to home, without facing traffic toward the center of Naples.
The most anticipated part for children is the entertainment. In the 2025 edition, recreational activities were managed by Animazione Casper, while artistic performances were entrusted to Teatro Madrearte: workshops, games, and shows that alternated along the market route throughout opening hours.
Alongside the market, during the same days, Villaricca also hosted the actual Santa's Village, featuring creative workshops, a giant bubble show, a professional photo booth, letter delivery, and meetings with Santa Claus and his elf, in a setting designed for the little ones with a strong focus on charity.
The Via Napoli Christmas Markets are the result of shared coordination. The event is promoted by Aicast, the San Francesco d'Assisi Parish, and the Municipality of Villaricca, with the decisive contribution of the associations Ammuina and Idee e Concretezza. This is a typical structure for Campanian towns, where the festival is born from the meeting of administration, parishes, associations, and merchants: none of the four, on their own, could fill a street for an entire weekend.
The market does not exist in isolation: it is the first stage of a festive program in Villaricca that spans about three weeks, from mid-December until Epiphany. In the 2025-2026 edition, the calendar included gospel concerts in parishes and the evangelical church, a musical dedicated to the Grinch in the gardens of a local estate, a living nativity scene, Arteinmusica concerts, and, on January 5th, a gathering of vintage cars and motorcycles with the Befana in Piazza Majone. Visitors arriving for the markets will therefore find more than enough reasons to return in the following days.
The event usually takes place on the second weekend of December, opening on Friday afternoon and closing on Sunday evening. The best time to visit is late afternoon, when the lights are already on and the entertainment is in full swing; Sunday, with continuous opening from the morning, is the ideal day for those traveling with small children who prefer to avoid the evening crowds.
Villaricca has about thirty thousand inhabitants and is not a classic tourist destination: precisely for this reason, its Christmas retains an authentic character, without the industrial scale of the large markets in Northern Italy. Those looking for an afternoon of sincere celebration, just a few kilometers from Naples, will find it here.
At the moment, there is no official announcement regarding the 2026 edition of the Via Napoli Christmas Markets in Villaricca. The dates, times, and list of exhibitors have not yet been released by the Municipality, Aicast, or the San Francesco d'Assisi Parish.
Historically, the Villaricca Christmas program is presented at the beginning of December, and the market opens on the second weekend of the month, as part of a program of events that continues until Epiphany. It is therefore reasonable to expect an announcement in the first weeks of December 2026, but until then, no date can be considered certain.
Those wishing to plan their visit can follow the official channels of the Municipality of Villaricca and local newspapers in the northern Naples area, which publish the complete calendar of Christmas initiatives every year.
By car: Villaricca is located in the northern area of the Naples Metropolitan City and is served by the Asse Mediano and the Circumvallazione Esterna, which connect it to Giugliano in Campania, Qualiano, Mugnano di Napoli, and the nearest motorway exit. Via Napoli is a central street: during the market days, it is best to park in side streets and continue on foot.
By plane: Naples-Capodichino Airport is about 15 km away.
By public transport: the town is connected to Naples and neighboring centers by northern area bus lines; check evening timetables before departing, as services may be reduced on holidays.
Access to the markets along Via Napoli is free; you only pay for what you purchase at the stalls and food stands. In the 2025 edition, the hours were: Friday and Saturday from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Sunday from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM.
News and updates on the Christmas program are published by the Municipality of Villaricca and local newspapers in the northern area of Naples in the weeks leading up to the event.
