Christmas in the town of lovers, featuring artistic illuminations and Santa's House
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
San Valentino Torio, a municipality in the Province of Salerno known throughout Campania as the «town of lovers», doesn't reserve celebrations only for February. Every December, the town center lights up for the Christmas Village, a festive event promoted by the municipal administration that turns the «Geppino Corazziere» Municipal Villa into a theme park dedicated to children and families from the Agro Nocerino Sarnese area.
The heart of the event is the Municipal Villa, decorated with artistic illuminations and scenic displays. Here, the nativity scene, the Christmas park with its classic attractions, Santa's cottage, and stations for children to drop off their letters come to life. Access is free and open to the public, a choice championed by the administration led by Mayor Michele Strianese, who sought to restore the importance of public spaces and real-life interaction following the years of the pandemic and digital isolation.
The second hub of the event is Palazzo Formosa, a historic residence in the town center, where Santa's House, curated by the Fratres Formisano Association, is inaugurated: this is where children deliver their letters and wishes. Over the years, the palace has also hosted Christmas markets, art exhibitions, and shows organized by the «Città degli Innamorati» Proloco, which complement the village in the Municipal Villa.
The most anticipated moment remains the lighting of the illuminations and the Christmas Tree in Piazza Amendola, preceded by the blessing of the nativity scene in Piazza Unità d'Italia, created by the Festival Committee of the San Giacomo Maggiore Apostolo Parish. The evening of December 8th concludes with the lighting and blessing of the traditional bonfire in honor of the Madonna, a popular ritual still deeply felt in the Sarno Valley.
The Christmas Village is not an isolated event: it is part of the Christmas calendar approved annually by the Municipal Council, which weaves together theater, church concerts, bingo games, musical shows, and solidarity dinners aimed also at the elderly. It is this choral dimension, rather than a tourist-focused one, that explains the event's success: entire days where the town gathers, in a Christmas-time Campania that here eschews excess and focuses on simplicity and the participation of local associations.
The event is usually concentrated in the first long weekend of December, around the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, with morning and afternoon openings, and continues with various appointments throughout the holiday period. San Valentino Torio is located a few kilometers from Sarno, Nocera Inferiore, and Pompei, in a convenient position for those arriving from the Vesuvius area or the Salerno region: an easy stop to combine with a day among the archaeological excavations and the villages of the Agro.
As of the update of this page, no official program has been published for the 2026 Christmas Village in San Valentino Torio, which is entirely normal: the holiday calendar is approved by the Municipal Council in the weeks leading up to December 8th.
Based on past editions, it is reasonable to expect that the «Geppino Corazziere» Municipal Villa will once again host the village dedicated to children, with Santa's House set up at Palazzo Formosa and the lighting of the Tree and artistic illuminations in Piazza Amendola. However, none of this information is confirmed for 2026.
For definitive dates, it is best to follow the channels of the Municipality of San Valentino Torio and the «La Villa di Babbo Natale» Facebook page, which in previous years have released the program a few weeks in advance.
