The summer festival of the Municipality of Scafati featuring concerts, entertainment, and the White Night
Scafati Summer is the summer program promoted by the municipal administration of Scafati, a city in the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area in the province of Salerno, Campania, just a few kilometers from the archaeological site of Pompeii. It is not a festival concentrated into a single weekend, but a widespread series of events that accompanies the entire season: from late June to early September, concerts, comedy shows, children's entertainment, literary meetings, and traditional religious events take place in the squares and public spaces of the center.
The philosophy of the event is openly inclusive. Mayor Pasquale Aliberti, while presenting the program, explained that he wanted to create a summer capable of speaking to everyone: children, young people, families, and the elderly. Hence the choice to alternate afternoons of entertainment in parks and squares, major evening concerts with nationally renowned artists, dance evenings dedicated to senior centers, and book presentations with authors well-known to the general public. It is a formula typical of municipal summer festivals in Southern Italy, where the piazza returns to being the natural place for social interaction during the hottest months.
The musical heart of the festival focuses primarily on contemporary Neapolitan song and Italian pop music. In recent years, the stage has hosted names very popular in the region, capable of filling the squares with an intergenerational audience, accompanied by orchestral tributes to the great tradition of Italian music. Alongside music, there is space for comedy, with cabaret and stand-up shows that confirm how deeply rooted the genre is in the Campanian scene.
The most anticipated event is the White Night, traditionally held at the beginning of September as the closing of the festival. For one night, the center of Scafati transforms into a single large open-air stage: multiple stages active simultaneously between Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Piazza Garibaldi, the Cavalcavia Longobardi area, and the shopping streets, with shops open until late at night, stands, street food points, and dance school performances. It is the only occasion of the year when the city stays awake until dawn and attracts visitors from neighboring towns in the Agro area.
The musical program is accompanied by the literary section Scafati is Culture, which extends the schedule even beyond the summer with book presentations and conversations with writers, actors, and television personalities. The meetings, hosted in city spaces, have an informative tone and are designed for a wide audience: a way to keep the municipality's cultural offering alive even in the autumn months.
The calendar also includes the identity component: the feast of the Santissima Maria delle Vergini, very dear to the Scafati community, is included in the program with its evening of celebrations and the customary fireworks display. It is the sign of a festival that is not limited to entertainment, but attempts to bring together shows, religious tradition, and a sense of belonging to the town.
Scafati Summer is a popular festival in the best sense of the term: free, outdoors, built in the squares rather than in a paid enclosure. For those visiting the Vesuvius and Pompeii area in summer, it represents an opportunity to see a city in the province of Salerno in its most authentic dimension, amidst Neapolitan song, comedy, and collective rituals that are repeated every year.
Presented in mid-June by the municipal administration led by Mayor Pasquale Aliberti, the 2026 edition of the summer festival in Scafati covers the period between June 21 and September 4, with an autumn tail dedicated to literary meetings. The program is built on three themes: entertainment for children distributed between Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the Villa Comunale, and Centro Plaza; evening concerts in late July; and the White Night on September 4, which concentrates four stages and as many shows into a single evening.
The final evening is also the most popular: after the comedy of Arteteca and Francesco Procopio in Piazza Garibaldi, it's the turn of Andrea Sannino in Piazza Vittorio Veneto and finally Noemi, expected late in the evening at the Cavalcavia Longobardi. The Scafati date was also confirmed in the new calendar of the singer's summer tour, rescheduled after her injury in July.
The traditional component is not missing, with the feast of the Santissima Maria delle Vergini on July 16 and its fireworks display, nor the social one, with the dance evening dedicated to senior centers at the end of August.
The program may be subject to change: it is advisable to check dates and times on the official channels of the Municipality of Scafati.
Scafati is located in the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area, in the province of Salerno, a few kilometers from Pompeii. By car, it can be reached via the A3 NaplesโSalerno motorway; the city center is connected by bus lines to neighboring towns and the main railway hubs of the area. During the White Night, traffic closures are implemented in the center: it is advisable to leave the car in the peripheral areas and continue on foot.
The events of the municipal program take place in the city squares and are free of charge, without tickets. For the most anticipated concerts, it is advisable to arrive well in advance, as the capacity of the squares is limited.
