The grand festival dedicated to Modica PGI Chocolate, in the heart of the city's Baroque district
ChocoModica is the event that annually crowns Modica, a Baroque jewel of the Val di Noto in the province of Ragusa, as the Sicilian capital of chocolate. For three days, the UNESCO World Heritage historic center fills with stands, aromas, and performances entirely dedicated to Modica PGI Chocolate, the only chocolate in Europe to boast the Protected Geographical Indication. Launched in 2014 in collaboration with Eurochocolate, the festival has grown to attract tens of thousands of visitors every year.
Modica chocolate is distinguished by its "cold" processing method, performed at low temperatures without conching: the sugar does not melt completely and retains its crystals, giving the product its characteristic grainy texture and intense flavor. It is an ancient technique, guarded by local masters, which obtained the PGI label in 2018. ChocoModica is the ideal showcase to discover its thousand variations: from the classic vanilla and cinnamon to more contemporary creations.
The festival offers a rich schedule divided into several sections:
The natural backdrop is the historic center of Modica, with its churches, staircases, and late-Baroque palaces that have made the city a UNESCO World Heritage site. Strolling along Corso Umberto I between tastings means living an experience that combines taste, culture, and beauty. Promoted by the Municipality of Modica and the Consortium for the Protection of Modica PGI Chocolate, ChocoModica is today one of the most beloved gastronomic events in Sicily.
The 2026 edition of ChocoModica is scheduled from Friday, October 30th to Sunday, November 1st, 2026, during the All Saints' Day long weekend, in the historic center of Modica (RG). The dates were officially announced by the Municipality of Modica and the Consortium for the Protection of Modica PGI Chocolate: for the first time, the festival chooses an autumn slot to capture family tourism during the long weekend of the Saints and offer more accessible rates compared to the summer.
Mayor Maria Monisteri emphasized that ChocoModica is "not just an event, but a common good," an act of protection and transmission of the Modican identity. The president of the Consortium, Salvo Peluso, recalled that Modica Chocolate is the only one in Europe with the PGI label.
The structure in several sections is confirmed: ChocoLab with live cocoa paste processing, ChocoArt with monumental chocolate sculptures, ChocoCibus with gastronomic pairings, ChocoTalk and ChocoBook with conferences and presentations, ChocoCircus dedicated to children, and the musical evenings of the Notti Fondenti. The detailed program with times and guests will be published on the official website in the weeks preceding the event.
Modica can be reached by car from the motorway/SS in the direction of Ragusa-Pozzallo; the nearest airports are Comiso (approx. 30 km) and Catania-Fontanarossa (approx. 110 km). The Modica train station is connected to the main lines of south-eastern Sicily.
Admission to the main events and stands is free; some specialized workshops and masterclasses have limited seating and require booking on the official website. In previous editions, the event was open from morning until late at night, with concerts scheduled after 9:00 PM.
The festival falls during the All Saints' Day long weekend: it is advisable to book accommodation in advance. Wear comfortable shoes for walking in the historic center and allow time to visit the Baroque churches of Modica Alta and Modica Bassa.
